What's new

Analysis: India's military build up may be too little too late?

Maybe, that since we have started so late on the Chinese front, they will constantly stay ahead of us in this race, as they are already far ahead of India in military terms and still progressing faster than us.

That is because they don't have the hurdles of a corrupt mob rule that we have. Add to that the fact that they get cleared for new weapons development instantly compared to our red tape, socialist-era thousands of rules and outdated procedures that have no relevance.

The day we have true democracy and not the current mob rule, will be when we will grow stronger.

^Too little, I understand but Too late for what ?

Too late for everything.

Last time we have purchased a new howitzers is 25 years back.

Suppose if we place order within 1 years it will take 3 years for the start of the deliveries and another 2 years to complete them.

Then we need at least 2-3 years to practice with them to perfect them.

In short if we place order in 2012 it will take minimum 2019-20 when we will be battle ready.

So isn't it too late????????

We need to allocate US$ 100 billion one time allocation for defense then we should raise the defense budged to be about 4%-5% of the GDP.

If we are serious about our defense.

With IAF going with rafale and with FGFA nearing IOC, I don't see any disparity between IAF and PLAAF. Also, with LCA Mk2s we will be more than a match numerically and qualitatively.

There's a lot of difference between "will", "may" and "is". By the time these jets come in fully, PLAAF would induct a lot of numbers of new jets. Their speed of implementation is the best thing they got. We have good projects, but we need to remove at least 70% of the procedures and red tape that is needed in either making or buying jets.

Also, IN has already going to induct more than 40 surface combatants which is likely to complete within time. I dont see why I should feel threatened with the current scenario.

I won't say anything against IN since it is the only arm that is taking PLA threat seriously. They could really do something about the submarine fleet though. We're seriously in underwater crisis right now.

And as far as IA is concerned, we are raising 10 mountain divisions and soon a mountain strike corps.

IA is the poorest in terms of equipment induction, transparency and management right now mate. No modern BPEs, good and capable weapons still stuck in limbo due to top brass and MOD corruption, top brass adamant against indigenization..etc you name it. Technically we should have inducted 700 Arjuns as a boost to indigenization considering that Arjun defeated all odds stacked against it. But Army still only ordered 500 so far and still continues to get the T-90 variants in (Some due to previous commitment, others due to its own obsession with foreign maal).

Notwithstanding the bureaucracy, GoI is doing much to make sure we don't fall 'that behind' so as never to catch up.

GOI is doing nothing. Last 2 years, it has been the military chiefs who've been repeatedly interacting more with people via press conferences to tell how unstable the situation is. This trend was started by ex-ACM Naik and AVM- PK Barbora who trashed this government so many times that they caught cold feet. GOI/UPA is not interested in defending this country.

It is the will of the common soldier, sailor and pilot that is keeping this nation strong. So-called leaders do nothing.
