The economy generates the funds that go into these purchases, hence the cost of these purchases(while earmarked earlier) have an effect on the slice of the budget they take. Depending on the future state of world affairs and its effect on the Indian economy, taxpayers may decide to pursue or not pursue these projects.
Come on man, how far do you want to spin this story only to defend him? The economy is not the topic of the opening article, nor if the Indian taxpayer can handle it. And as you can see in the defence budgets, even with growth down from 9% to 5%, the defence budgets kept growing. That alone makes the so called relation to economy and taxes bogus, but we both know that this has nothing to do with it anyway.
