ANALYSIS: India's air force modernisation challenge

The economy generates the funds that go into these purchases, hence the cost of these purchases(while earmarked earlier) have an effect on the slice of the budget they take. Depending on the future state of world affairs and its effect on the Indian economy, taxpayers may decide to pursue or not pursue these projects.

Come on man, how far do you want to spin this story only to defend him? The economy is not the topic of the opening article, nor if the Indian taxpayer can handle it. And as you can see in the defence budgets, even with growth down from 9% to 5%, the defence budgets kept growing. That alone makes the so called relation to economy and taxes bogus, but we both know that this has nothing to do with it anyway.

IAF Modernization Program is becoming way too expensive for the Indian Taxpayer.

Depending on the future state of world affairs and its effect on the Indian economy, taxpayers may decide to pursue or not pursue these projects.

Actually money is not a big problem for us..
This year alone $5.25 billion (31818 rupees) allocated for IAF capital expenditure..
The above wish list is for 15 years.. That is if we calculate with this year expenditure as average, then for next 15 years we have(15*5.25=) $78.75 billion will be there for capital expenses...
Other than Rafel and fifth gen PMF (~$55billion), others are comparatively smaller ones...
Also IAF capital allocation will increase as economy expands..
According to our Parliamentary committee of defence our defense budget is only 1.78% of gdp
(they recommended to increase 3%).. So our def budget is not a big burden for tax payers..

I am not spinning anything. The economy was never the focus of the rebuttal either. Its the freedom to comment on India's matters here. Nobody has the right to stop that.

Please check again, Echo_419 stated that the economy will come back again..., you can argue that the last part of his post was unnecessary and I agree, but so was a one liner of Pakistanisage, that has nothing to do with the topic of the article in first place and both, posting one liners and de-railing topics are against forum rules right? That's why you shouldn't single out the one and try to protect the other.

Anyway, we should get back to the real topic again, which is what aircrafts and capabilities will be added within the next 15 years!

we have to understnad the objective spending that heavy amount of moeny ...
its not offensive but its defensive purchase ..
as IAF sqad numb is going down rapidly..and only
Su and Mirage , are in postion to have effetive force ...
replacing old migs is neccesary .. its not new purchase its just repalicng cycle ...
--
in fact indian navy addiding more capabilty with nulecar sub and virkramditya...
--
indian economy can sustain that much moeny with contract period .of many yrs...
---
we all would be happy if in ideal sitatuin that money went to welfare of people...
but geopoliticla situatun does not permit that ..
still we spend less in % gdp to defence than other sectors...
we want AIIIMS, IIM, IITs, School, collge , but defence also come in picture too.

He should, these acquisitions effect the Indian economy, its not about worrying about the taxpayer but expressing his opinion on the monetary challenges that follow such acquisitions with regards to india

Why the worry about ourself? Why can he NOT comment on the effect of the purchase on the Indian economy? He is NOT restricted to posting about Pakistan.

Of course he is free to say anything he wants, but inanely gratuitous comments do not come through as "edifying" even more so from 'alleged' Professionals. That kind of meaninglessness only sits well on the Hoi-Polloi such as us....... :D

And on that note, they will be added. But it would be prudent for us to shed the light on how long will they come part and participle of the force. i.e.. how long will the IAF achieve the ability to declare them combat ready(FOC).

We should cancel upgradation of jaguar, migs & miraj. Why?
Because jaguar will not provide any more leverage over current form in IAF. Use them until they serve. BTW they are 3rd in line for replacement after migs.
Miraj are good and upgradation indeed is fruitfull. But 2024 is the time-frame for their upgradation. By that we would have mk2 in numbers. And dont forget of 6.5 crores per a/c, in this price tag we buy 2 tejus.
Migs could be upgraded because IN is also operating them but they are not multirole platforms.

So save money by this. And induct Rafale and Tejus as quick as possible.
