An opinion from a Turkish brother: Pakistan's best response to Indian actions

equal rights under the law
When we say that Non Muslims have equal rights in Pakistan, Non Pakistani Non Muslims raise the question if a Non-Muslim can be a head of the state or a chief executive in Pakistan..

If we are willing to make this change in our constitution, then its fine, because we know even if we give Non Muslims this right, it's next to impossible for them to get elected as a PM or a President..

However, who will convince Maulana Fazlur Rahman, Siraj ul Haq and Khadim Hussain Rizvi?

I'm going to cop a lot of hate for this. But I must say it.

The best response to India, especially after their citizenship law is to push for secularism. Pakistan should make it very clear that it supports all religions equally. This would piss off India. India would prefer an even more Islamic Pakistan.

Trust me as a Turk. Secularism is the best thing for your country. It will gain support and respect from a lot of countries.

India is slipping into Hindu fanaticism. It is the perfect time to show the world that Pakistan is more civilised than India.

Don't forget my brothers. Secularism doesn't mean western values or liberalism. It just means that all religions are treated the same. It separates religion and state. It is the best way to go.
I appreciate your honest and frank opinion and there is merit to what you are saying is inline with what our founder has in mind and said in his limited time with us after independence. and that was freedom of religion and equality for all non Muslims as well.

I think some of my fellow country posters might fail to see the message and essence of your opinion and due to lack of comprehension and misunderstanding there might be rants and emotions.

I would try to take a prudent and logical approach by highlighting few difficulties with the suggestion.
the two nation theory identified muslims as a separate nation our first resolution decided that Pakistan be an Islamic democratic state where the sources of the law are Quran and Sunnah. here lies the problem for us. there has to be a midway where for the name and action sake we remain islamic republic but we offer all the security, peace and equality to those citizens that are not muslims and we dont hound any more communities to throw them out of the islamic fold and stop demonizing minority faiths because of the actions of our near and far neighbors.

This is the policy statement of our founding father;

Imagine if someone had proposed 2nd amendment BS to him. He had an Ahmadi Foreign Minister.

Well ahmadis weren't officially declared kafir at that time so nothing surprising that he had one as foreign minister

A non Muslim can become foreign minister even today so that doesn't change anything

The idea is absurd. We made pakistan in the name of islam. If we wanted secuarlism we would join india from the start and we would have not divded india at all. We broke india because we wanted Islamic identity. We are for islam always.

Also islam has secularism rooted inside it better than todays secuarism concepts.

If I heard it correctly, Muslims who sought a separate homeland as a separate NATION should dismantle that edifice and become another in the list... most of whom are neither. Didn't India just prove that secularism is a facade and minorities will always be at the helm of the majority and for that you don't even have to be a declared religious state.... what am I missing here?

You think you're going to get hate for this but you will be surprised how many people want secularism.

I personally desire that Pakistan becomes secular by laws, but symbolically it keeps the religious identity of Islam.

Issue is not that there are many non secularists, but that in the lower educated class, there are what I would term as religious zealots, they would take it to the streets the moment such a thing happens, and would pretty much destroy.

This is the price we are paying for Zia's '80s islamization policies.

Following the rules of Islam, all religions are equally protected in Pakistan. An interpretation of Islam that it only permits Muslims to live/work freely will be a wrong interpretation of Islam. So in the sense, @GlobalMillitary96 is talking about, Islam is secular and gives total freedom to all religions.

But it's the right opportunity for Pakistan to announce that all religions are equally protected and enjoy the same level of freedom - as India has gone away from such an ideology.

I'm here for learning here with no intention to offend anyone. To be honest, i'm fine with whatever system is followed, as long as it is being followed honestly. Islam is a wonderful religion that teaches peace and tolerance. But i don't think our nation is following the path Jinnah would have wanted us to follow.

valid quertion regarding the last part whose fore fathers might have called Pakistan Napakistan and termed Qaed e Azam Kafir e Azam
also valid counter to our claim about equality when our heads of state and institutions in some cases cant be non muslims

since 1947 apart from few lost decades of Zia Ul Haq, Pakistan is and has always been secular in nature with freedom to all religions.

that is nothing new.

Pakistan from its birth was declared as a Secular nation However the constitution of 1973 changed that. Our founding father Jinnah envisioned it as a Secular Nation as well, so who are we to disagree?

Anyways, Thank you for your input. much appreciated ^^

Dear constitution of 1973 did not change the concept and base of Pakistan. It founded on Religious base that you can see whats is going on in India for Muslims.
