Not until the diadochi period did Ind and Indoi come to denote anything east of Pakistan as Alexander did not know there was anything farther until he had come to the region himself and learned of the rich Kingdoms that laid further east. Before that whatever he knew of the region came from Persian sources who only knew about the border of Darius' empire which included the Indus valley. After that everything East was considered Indoi or India if you want to call it even South East Asia was called East Indies.

Native Americans and South-East Asia referred with the name Indies in colonial era, otherwise only South Asia was called as India. Greeks wrote this in 300BC.

I have no roots in Deccan or South India.

Both Indus and its tributaries flows in India before it enters Pakistan.

Indus does not flows through India. Indus starts from China where it make up 3% of total length, in IOK/Maqbooza Kashmir it flows 5% whereas in Pakistan it flows 93%.

You said your family is from Maharashtra, Muslims in those region uses such slang. About Indus, its still an Indian river and Indus river treaty was a permission from India to use its water.

Arabs did that because they say it as two different groups of people but the truth is sindhu is the local name for the river whereas Hindu was the name given to the river by the Persians when they translated so it was most likely either ignorance of the history behind the name on the part of the Arabs or they saw it as different nations which makes sense since the Sindhis had their own powerful kingdom.

I wonder about that. According to the 10th century Arab scholar Masudi Sindh and Hind were part of one country.
Masudi wrote:" The most powerful king in al-Hind of our time is the Rashtrakuta king, king of the city of Mankir, the greatest centre of the country. Amongst the kings of Sind and Hind none treats the Muslims who are established in their domains with more distinction than the Rashtrakuta king. In the cities of the Rashtrakuta kingdom the Muslims were honored and protected and they were allowed to erect their own mosques."

Thanks for that @INDIC as usual. Especially the part regarding the cuisine was good and I could imagine the similarities between Bangladeshi cuisine (fish based) and that of Eastern India.

Bangladesh was previously known as East Bengal, thus culture of Bangladesh and West Bengal are similar. During Partition of India in 1947, similar to Punjab divided between India and Pakistan, Muslim majority East Bengal went to Pakistan while Hindu majority West Bengal was given to India. East Bengal later renamed as East Pakistan and then it became Bangladesh in 1971. Bangladesh means "Country of Bengalis".

Even this passage you mentioned makes it sound like they considered it separate. The bold makes it seem like they recognized that there were more than one king in each of these regions it does not make it sound like they are considering it one region.

Btw foot this is what al-Biruni stated about Hind, "Hind is surrounded on the East by Chín and Máchín, on the West by Sind and Kábul, and on the South by the Sea."-
