Era of Darkness?
Hmmm and I was under the impression that the British Empire did take some GOOD steps to mitigate era of Darkness in India. For example (quoting few bellow)

British started the census to get the statistical data of the age, caste, religion, occupation, education, and infirmities of the population in the year 1871.

It was established in 1861, by the much revered Alexander Cunningham known as the "
Father of Indian Archaeology".
This institution made maps of India .Many places & villages of India still uses the maps made during British time!!.
6. Asiatic society of Bengal
Objective of this society is to preserve Indian monuments, literary scripts etc.
