The invitation for the 24 year-old came at the behest of US Secretary of State Hilary Clinton.
Khan, the World Boxing Association light-welterweight champion, has based his career in Hollywood for the last two years.
"Amir was invited there by Mrs Clinton," a source revealed. "He will be among a group of the most prominent Muslim sportsmen in America, and as Amir is now based in the US, that offer was extended to him."
The dinner is on the eve of the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 bombings in New York, instigated by a group of radical Islamic terrorists.
Khan admitted that he was "delighted" with the offer and was in London this week renewing his visa.As revealed in The Daily Telegraph, the irony is that Khan is subject to stringent security checks by the US Border Control each time he goes to that country for training camps at coach Freddie Roach's Wild Card Gym, in Los Angeles, California.
Khan was furious with overzealous Homeland Security officials in June this year, after they kept him waiting four hours in a holding room.
Asif Vali, Khan’s manager, explained: "Names like Khan and Muhammad are commonly stopped. There are seven levels of security threat, with seven being the highest, and Amir has come in at the full seven.
"His name is Khan; he is a Muslim; between visits to the United States, he visits Pakistan; and he recently went to another Muslim country, Egypt, on holiday.
"All these things are taken into account by US Homeland Security. The Khan family are kept in a holding area until the green light is given from Washington DC, as all the checks that are made."
It is thought that after this visit to the White House, which could potentially also include an audience with US President Barack Obama, Khan may find a smoother passage on future entries to the United States.
Khan, who returned from pilgrimage to Mecca last week during Ramadan, will fight in the United States for the fourth time in December, most likely against Mexican legend Erik Morales.
Khan will leave the White House on Sept 11 and go on to Las Vegas, where one of his rivals, Victor Ortiz, defends the World Boxing Council welterweight title against unbeaten star Floyd Mayweather Jnr.
