A Texas high school teacher has been placed on administrative leave following an incident where he allegedly told a 9th grade Muslim girl in his algebra class "I bet that you're grieving" on Monday following the death of Osama bin Laden.

According to one parent at Clear Brook High School in Houston who spoke about the incident to a local ABC affiliate, the teacher also said, "I heard about your uncle's death."

The parent said the student "understood that he was referring about Osama bin Laden being killed and was racially profiling her."

The name of the alleged victim of the comment has not been released. She is being described as an "American-born girl of Muslim faith."

The teacher allegedly showed no remorse after Muslim girl reacted to his comments, according to the parent (who requested anonymity from the ABC station because "she doesn't want any retaliation against her daughter or the girl who experienced the inappropriate comment.")

"The student ended up crying over what was said to her by the teacher and the teacher asked her why she was crying and another student said it was because of what you said earlier," the parent told the station. "And his response was, oh, OK, and just kind of smirked and giggled and walked away."

The Houston Chronicle reports the unidentified teacher "has been placed on administrative leave" following the alleged remark. The school district said in a statement that "the student did the right thing and immediately notified an adult regarding the teachers' comments."

The Chronicle published this official response from the school district:

In the Clear Creek Independent School District, we believe diversity strengthens our community and seek opportunities to celebrate the different cultures within our schools and neighborhoods. The sentiments allegedly shared by this teacher are not reflective of the staff at Clear Brook High School or anyone within the Clear Creek Independent School District.

In accordance with CCISD policy, the teacher has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of a personnel investigation. The student did the right thing and immediately notified an adult regarding the teachers' comments. The principal at Clear Brook High School notified the child's parents and has been in communication with the family.

I would say that this article is representative of what majority of white people think of non-white. I am not even Muslim and I went to HS in America.

Most people don't show their hate because is un-PC, but it is widely held belief in most people personal beliefs.

I agree with you .....if you go to schools with a huge white population the teaching standards are much better. But the tests seem to be easier. Its seems pretty evident to me there is grade manipulation and grade leniency so that these white kids get into great colleges or grad schools. I have classmates who answered the same question wrong on an exam but received points for it. As for the teacher, well he deserves what is coming to him but I doubt it......Texas is notoriously unfair. Minorities in America have always had this image of Blacks as inferior or criminally oriented but the reality is that they live in a land where they are treated as second class citizens. Only post 9/11, White Americans have realized they better keep them happy and on their "side." Racism is still alive and around just more hidden from plain sight, at least in the major cities. In other areas, it is publicly displayed and vocalized.

Racism occurs almost in every country in the world. Let's not pretend, we all know how muslims are treated in certain parts of India and how some hindus are mistreated in certain parts of islamic countries. There's racism among brits, irish and the scots. Racism is almost prevalent in almost every society.

This is not racism but prejudice and I blame Pakistani government for this misfortune. It gave a perception to outside world that it is in collusion with terrorists. This particular teacher slipped tongue. I bet you half of world must be thinking the same.

No there is definite racism. How many fortune 500 companies have Chinese (even ethnic Chinese-Americans/Canadians) CEOs, even when they operate in China? I can think of Li Kaifu of Google/Microsoft, that's it. Instead of using local talent, foreign (Japanese and white, especially American/French, less so for British/German) multinationals in China fire/marginalize workers that threaten their position at the top while hiring whites/Japanese directly for management positions.

Why is that? Because it is unacceptable to them for a Chinese to be managing a white. They would rather be at a disadvantage against competitors than use non-white managers. This is why foreign multinationals dropped from 14/top 50 employers to 3/top 50 employers in 1 year.

Of course, this is about the glass ceiling which Indians don't have. Indians are less prejudiced against than Chinese.
