A weight-loss doctor is facing sexual assault charges after touching patients inappropriately during fat-burning massages. Dr Arie Oren, 64, is accused of telling one of his patients she would slim down if she had sex with him, and another she could burn 200 calories by having an orgasm. And when one woman stormed out of his office in Pennsylvania after he allegedly groped her, she claims he said: The visit is on the house because youre so hot.
Prosecutors said half a dozen women claim the Israeli-born doctor sexually assaulted them during the fat-burning massages he offered at his Conshohocken Weight Control clinic. The women, aged between 24 and 59, claim Oren asked them to take their clothes off before he gave them what he called fat-busting massages with his hands and electronic devices. But according to prosecutors he used the sessions to touch the women inappropriately. On one occasion he told a woman she was getting an extra-special treat for losing all the weight before using a massager around her genital area.
He also told one woman if you need a man, Im a man before allegedly assaulting her. In one case, a patient stormed out of his office in 2008 after the doctor allegedly touched her genitals. He called after her saying: This visit is on the house because youre so hot. The women told investigators when they rebuffed his unwanted advances he still continued to assault them. One victim said Oren grabbed her breasts and told her although she may want to lose her stomach, she wouldnt want to lose her breasts. Montgomery County District Attorney Risa Vetri Ferman said: A patient goes to a doctor for help. A patient looks to a doctor as someone that he or she can trust, and can trust with the exposing of the body. She said: So, for a woman to go to a doctor like this looking for help with weight loss, which is such a personal matter, and to then have the doctor touch her sexually, touch her inappropriately, and even try to kiss her and to make such personal comments, is really a complete betrayal of what the doctor is supposed to be doing.
Police began investigating the doctor in September after a visibly upset 39-year-old woman told them Oren had touched her inappropriately and sexually assaulted her with a massaging device during an examination. Five other women came forward to report eerily similar alleged incidents. Conshohocken Detective John Storti III wrote in the arrest affidavit: Several women stated Oren was unprofessional, inappropriate and ultimately made their visit uncomfortable. Numerous patients mentioned Oren touched them unnecessarily while physically examining them. Orem has been charged with four counts of aggravated indecent assault and eight counts of indecent assault. He was released on $100,000 bail after appearing before Judge Francis J. Bernhardt at Conshohocken District Court.
