American female student falls in love with Saudi Culture

Your Dhofari sister is moving to Japan soon XD My parents will go with me but they will stay for just a few days. of course they hate it. People will 'eat' them for letting me live alone in Japan, you know what I mean. I really appreciate their 'sacrifices' for me.

Is it me or most people hate Arabs for political reasons? I'm more interested in cultural things. We have many interesting things in our cultures but not many people know about them. Like folktales? I'm currently translating a collection of Dhofari folktales into English. I'm sure some foreigners will find them interesting! I really hate how Omani history is little heard of too. Oman's history has a lot of interesting stories

I saw a documentary about Papua a few months ago. It is a very beautiful place. Lots of trees :D!

Wow, that is amazing. A Dhofari girl in Japan? Must be the first one of its kind. Good luck and all the best. Spread the knowledge of Dhofari, Omani and Arab culture to Japan and always be proud.

Well, probably some of it is also ignorance, senseless hate, envy etc.

Yes, Arab poetry and folklore is very well-known in the world and we all know all those famous stories that took place in the Arab world and made it to Hollywood, LOL and Western folklore.

Yes, Oman has a ancient history and a rich and beautiful culture. Not to say country. Well, Dhofar is tropical - just look at your avatar. But yes, Papua New Guinea has one of the largest untouched forests in the world aside from the Amazon. It is also the second largest island in the world.

But true, Oman is not that known (well in the West apart from being a place of tourism, the Sultan and the Tour of Oman and the Omani colonial Empire). People are much more familiar with Oman in our region, Horn of Africa, the Swahili Coast in Africa etc.;)

But overall people sadly lack historical knowledge in our current age for good and bad.

Kaylee Boalt, Converse student, finds interest in Saudi culture | GoUpstate.com

Kaylee Boalt didn't care for politics and knew little of the Middle East when she came to Converse College as a starry-eyed mezzo soprano more than three years ago.

Boalt, who is from Greer, was going to be an opera singer.

But a trip overseas helped the 21-year-old Boalt find a new love with a new culture. And this summer, the Greer-native is living in New York City at her own expense to help Arab people become U.S. citizens.

For the last month, Boalt has lived at the 92nd Street YMCA in Manhattan while taking night classes at nearby Bard College and working part time at the Arab-American Family Support Center in Brooklyn.

Just teenager of young age is common happen like this until 30 years old mature enough, she will decide to return back her home country.

Teenagers are gone in trial experiments and exciting something. ;)

I knew it :yay:

Sadly, the Iranian regime did brainwash a big portion of the Iranian people, as well as non-Iranians - such as Hezbollah - But still, there is a hope. Keep in mind that we should look into how we are being viewed by our foes.

Living in Saudi Arabia and saying such a bold statement is beyond the irony.
Looking at the percentage of the people who have liberal/secular views in both Iran and Saudi Arabia reveals many things regarding who is brainwashed or not. :)

Every country in this world has good and bad why single out KSA.
There are many such articles about India too does that mean our country is perfect. @Yzd Khalifa mate some people may have preconceived notions its best if you ignore them.

Word!

Well, People shouldn't take things for granted, but rather study facts, and standstill, otherwise such generalization will inflict a pure ignorance and lack of knowledge.

I happen to be familiar with how India is being viewed at the eyes' of some bigots in media, I hate to say this but particularly heavy-weighted Western News Agencies, but that doesn't necessarily suggest that the West or South Korea or KSA or even Pakistan as a whole are anti-India by nature. Why hasn't Foxnews reported the mass protest against Rapists, but they've gone banana when a Swiss was sexually assaulted by two mentally ill people? Isn't that a hypocrisy? Why haven't they reported such heart-breaking news when a whole INDIAN family sat themselves on fire out of guilt of being raped? I can give you many examples all day long, sometimes people need to slow down and think for a second before they say such thing, I'm not referring to @cyphercide in person, but we shouldn't judge a book by its cover.

Why are people bellyaching about someone appreciating Suadi culture, are we insinuating that KSA has no culture?:cuckoo: When people come to India and claim to have fallen in love with its culture does it make India perfect, does it take away the issues we face? If someone does the same with Saudi culture does that mean that you need to jump up and down and start posting on everything that you and others may find problematic about KSA and its people? Grow up yaaron or better yet visit the Gulf nations.

It's all about the cultural gaps, different norms, habits, and customs. But at the end of the day, people, in general, are somewhat similar to one another. Maybe some people take it too far to some extent, asserting religion in everything, while many social norms people in KSA practice are in no way related to their religion.

I happen to know people who went to India for work and tourism, and everyone of them told me a different narration, but I never heard anything related to religion whatsoever. In fact, some of them revisited India once more.

The Saudi people love the subcontinent cuisine BIG TIME! :yay:

Cool. You have an Indian crew you roll with. @Dillinger is especially a hard nut to get a hold of!!!

Let's move on and talk about the article she wrote, any specific thoughts on the matter? Also, it says she wrote a piece on terrorism but I wasn't able to locate it. Any luck on your side?

I don't think the young lady will produce any practical account when it comes to terrorism, as she would fail to identify who are the good guys or who aren't. But to us it is very simple, we observe their behavior in critical way that our judgment will never turn out to be untrue.

Here is the rules

If you see something, say something!

During Iran's presidential elections, two candidates were on terror wants-list

Oh thanks for letting me know that she was a teenager

That was a weird and unrelated comparison, you didn't even get what I said.
And that ridiculous terror list, don't even bring that up. The same countries who are responsible for the most civilian casualties in the history, create a list and put in there everyone that they don't like. I know somewhere deep down, even you have your own suspicions on that terror lists.

Stick to the topic please, including the moderator who of all people should know about this forums rules and thus follow them.

It's not about Iran or Fiji. Both are as irrelevant in this thread. It is about KSA and the Arab culture and thus the Arab world. Let us stick to that and ignore the 1 Iranian troll that has posted until now. We know that they are obsessed about the ancient and beautiful Arab world. Nobody invented the wheel by stating that.

Besides million of people have an interest in the Arab world, culture, history, Islam and language. In fact the Arab world is one of the most talked and read about regions in the world. One just need to watch the world news. She is far from the first or last one. Already 150-200 years ago when private individuals first started to explore the Middle East on their own many Westerners were very fond of Arab culture.

Besides nearly 2 billion Muslims have some kind of affinity with the Arab world, culture and language for obvious reasons.

Nope, the comparison is fair and lovely

We fight terror to our fullest, while the others spread it all across the globe. What casualties are you talking about? :cuckoo: Don't tell me that the Jews were responsible for it, like what your former president said that the Jews are responsible for the lack of rain

Anyway, I will drop my stick down here.

Cheers

1.It was never proved that Iran was behind that.
2.Ironically, we have largest Jewish population after Israel in ME.
3.I wasn't talking about Jews, but western countries.
4.I'll drop my stick too, we can have a discussion on this matter in a proper thread.

Let's stick to Saudi culture.

@Yzd Khalifa, I have a great idea for a Public Relations Bonanza for KSA.

King Abdulla should invite 10 Americans a week for a week long vacation to KSA at Governments Expense.

The Flight won't cost anything since there are always 10 empty seats on the weekly NYC - Jeddah roundtrip Flight on Saudia Airlines.

The expense would be less than $ 5000 per person or $50,000 a week or around 2.5 Million USD a year which is peanuts for KSA.

The Public Relations bonanza would be worth hundreds Billions of Dollars worth. A 1000+ Americans a year visiting KSA and enjoying the Hospitality of KSA.

Any American who goes to KSA at KSA govt. expense will come back and rant and rave about KSA hospitality and tell friends what life is like in the Kingdom and ill have pictures to show their friends.

I know I spent few months in Jeddah and could not believe how Hospitable and Kind Saudi people really are.

Yes sir! We have been doing it for a LONG period of time. Every year we invite Students all across the US to visit us for 10 days, all what we ask them for is their passports.

U.S. Students Visit Saudi Arabia - YouTube

For those US nationals who are interested in studying at KSA, we give scholarships to all people across the globe to study at KAUST.
