Australia needs American security/military protection, and beggar can't be chooser.
When push come to shove, Australia has no choice but to pay the price that america asked. She can't expect China to protect her, can't she?
Would Australia considered minimizing tension between China and US to be in her best interest?
Maybe, but I do not think that there is much that Australia can do in that department anyway.

^^^^ HoooaaH I love it! You are growing Up! Don't know how I missed it!

To be honest no country really has to make that choice unless China or America force them to. However, I would suspect that pressure to choose would be coming from the Americans.

Regardless, Australia is going to choose China.

Australia's economy (ex. 30% of Australian exports go to China vs. 3% to the US) and security is far more reliant on South East Asia and China than America.

No.

Australia is ostensibly in the American camp and will remain so for the foreseeable future.

Nothing will change that.

Maybe because Indians always flood these threads to take potshots at China by living vicariously through American might.

On topic, the Chinese posters really need to get a better understanding of Australia. Ethnically and culturally, Australia is SOLIDLY European. All the trade in the world is not going to change that reality.

That is really rich coming from a Pakistani, a common trait of who is to 'live vicariously' through Chinese accomplishments.

"I think if the United States re-engages Asia to contain China it won't work because countries in Asia won't sign on to containment. We don't want another Cold War. The United States should not ask Asian countries to choose. You may not like the results if you ask countries to choose."

eh, talk is cheap. The US has a logistics task force to support the 7th fleet based in Singapore.

It's not even about race or culture, we have been allies to the Poms for 100 years and the yanks for 70 years, we have fought beside them in two world wars. This doesn't mean we can't have a friendly relationship with China and hopefully the two blocs don't have conflict.

The west is not a "white bloc".

Agreed, the 'West' as seen is not a bloc based on race, else Japan wouldn't be considered part of it. Also the US wouldn't be considered part of it for these 8 years, lol.

the 'Western' Bloc is more based on shared values than anything. Not necessarily the same cultural values, but the appreciation of democracy, human rights, rule of law, etc.

That said beyond the 'Western' bloc there is also a 'core alliance' bloc with multiple treaties involving all areas of the military, known as the 'five eyes' community when it comes to intelligence operations.

this bloc is not only based on those shared values, but also on shared history, language, and culture. This one doesn't get much press because it is not based on values that any country can have, but values that are, mostly, based on pure circumstance.

Basically a 'blood is thicker than water' bloc, these are the countries that the US trust to have its back, and vice-versa of course, should things go totally to hell in a handbasket with the 'western' bloc splintering.

these guys are saying a member of that bloc will choose China over another member of the bloc?

One thing is quite clear. Even When China become much stronger and comparable to U.S., China will NOT be the one stirring the water for conflict. China will not send her fleet to Gulf of Mexico.

However, China will respond to whatever threat she may face forcefully and make sure all parties that want to attack China suffer greatly.

China was not, is not a colonist country and will never be one either.

We do not interfere your internal matter and you should also get your dirty hands off ours.

SUPPORT CHINA AT MOMMENT HOPE YOU DONT BECOME LIKE USA DOGS. WHEN USA TRAMPS GO DOWN.GAMBIT AND HIS FAMIULY DESERVE TO GO DOWN .

This coming from the guy who's country is getting billions from the US hehehehehe

Its the mother hen and its 3 chicks. One of the little chicks grow up to be the strongest and help take care of the mother hen at the time of trouble some time back.

Since India could also count as a chick, do you think they are better off if they never left the family.

Actually, China and Russia are the world's remaining colonialist countries.

The answer is very simple
Losers choose USA (declining empire)
winners choose China(rising superpower)
Huh? And who are these so called 'winners'? Except Cambodia, North Korea and Pakistan, (which aren't 'winners' by any stretch of imagination), who on planet Earth has chosen China? :P

The answer is very simple

Peace choose Russia

Don't forget Russia, without Russia on China side China got no chance in military vs USA.
Russia still a wild card

BIG IF..
If Russia choose USA and the West then China are dead Peking duck lay on the wooden chopping board waiting to be chop in pieces.

If Russia choose China then the West and USA have a big headache.
