Those names are not good either. Especially the Spanish flu, which gave the false impression the 1918 influenza epidemic came from Spain (it did not). If something like the MERS became pandemic proportions, there is no doubt people of Middle Eastern origin would be targeted or profiled by stupid people.

There was no vocal opposition to calling those viruses after their geographic names... So why are Chinese so special or crybabies???... Even in Middle East they called MERS MERS...

As I said before those are bad names ... the reason why there is no stigma with MERS was because the virus never became pandemic proportions as the coronavirus has become. I have no doubt that if the MERS became an epidemic like the coronavirus, there would be a lot of racism/possibly violence towards people of Middle Eastern descent. Naming some virus like the Middle East Respiratory Syndrome or the Chinese virus tells ignorant people who to attack and vilify.

In the middle East MERS is called MERS... I traveled to Saudi and had to address the risk ... Even at the airport it was called MERS.

I wasn't around during the Spanish Flue... But there is no documented cases of attacks against Spanish speaking people during the Spanish Flue because of the name.

Truth is Chinese people have this issue with face saving as part of their culture... They like to deny any sort of reality that blames them.for anything.... That is the root cause. Its not taking personal responsibility by China for the Coronavirus
