I have NEVER seen a self-checkout in a Chinese Supermarket in the Boston area. If you can find one please post it here...but good luck to that. Trust me the Chinese cashiers scrutinize everything/everybody with a magnifying glass. They'd never trust another Chinese person to total their own bill in a million years.

Chinatown Chinese are likely to live as a minority in a highly xenophobic, low trust, high crime society. Of course their trust would be lower than in China.

Anecdotal single store from before the deployment of facial recognition for payment. Clearly loss rates aren't consistently 18% otherwise the self unmanned stores wouldn't still be here everywhere else.

Also can't be compared to US self checkouts which still current have employees guarding the exits.

The only places I know of with guys at the door are wholesale clubs and some city BestBuy stores otherwise they don't exist in the area I am in. In the inner city they may even have police at the door.

Besides please post a video of a guy guarding the exit of a supermarket. Is it a 16yr old kid who stocks the shelves or something?

The only places I know of with guys at the door are wholesale clubs and some city BestBuy stores otherwise they don't exist in the area I am in. In the inner city they may even have police at the door.

Geez. Talk about a red flag. No wonder you have a sour attitude of life in the US.

Here's a 146,000sq foot Wegmans Supermarket in a popular suburban shopping mall near me.

2) No security sensors at the doors either

WTF? There are no gang areas near these two stores. In fact look at the demographics of the suburb the Korean store is in. Just a tiny token black/latino population.

Do you mean those vending machines in Japan that are on every corner selling underwear and stuff?

We only have snack/drink vending machines here. The non-food ones aren't popular. Plus I think only the drink machines are waterproof.

If one reads the history of china town,he will find a pattern in the formation of China towns near the more shoddy and gang-infested areas,those were generally formed when large group of european immigrants that occupied the region pushed the scant Asian immigrants in far-flung and inconvenient areas of the US, that's part of US history.
Hence cases like this is apparent.

The property crime -burglary,shoplifting are carried out by blacks,whites mainly in China town.If China town is unsafe it's because blacks,white ,demographic criminals raid there. No wonder East Asia is the safest place in earth .
And by vending machine, there's few cheap chips and mountain dew packed ones placed in gas stations,malls, and few very strategic place.

The Chinese and Korean supermarket videos I posted are NOT in Chinatown (in fact over 18km away in the quiet suburbs) so the logic in your post is not applicable at all.

The Korean one is 1km away from one of the most desired towns to live in in the entire US. So that makes your logic even more laughable as it is in a prime location far away from "the more shoddy and gang-infested areas".

BTW There is a regular US ~100,000 sq ft (9200 sq meter) supermarket (Market Basket) with self-checkout less than 200 meters away from the Korean one!!! So isn't that interesting.

Amazon has been busy lately between cleaning up its online shopping experience and making big acquisitions. Now, one of their quick-and-easy Amazon Fresh grocery stores has opened in Bellevue, and it's the first of its kind, according to Seattle Pi.

Here's what Eastside shoppers and interested customers need to know about this full-service location:

A key feature of this Amazon Fresh is "Just Walk Out," where shoppers can simply "enter the store, grab what they want, and just go." Shoppers will need their smartphone to scan a QR code in the Amazon app or use a credit card linked to their Amazon account.

Whatever you remove from shelves is added to your shopping cart. That also means whatever you put back is automatically removed. When you're done shopping, scan or insert your payment entry method again to exit. Shoppers will get a digital receipt afterward.

You can also have the traditional shopping experience at Amazon Fresh. Guests will have to enter through a designated exterior entrance and go to a checkout line when they're finished shopping. "Customers can choose to pay using cash, card, Amazon One — technology that allows patrons to use a palm scan to pay — the in-store code in the Amazon app, or SNAP EBT," reporters wrote. You will also get a paper receipt.

Amazon members who choose the check-out lines will get both a paper and digital receipt.

You can find the new Bellevue store at the Marketplace at Factoria. It's open every day from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m

This is not what Amazon is doing. The cashierless (like BingBox) part is only half of the story. The real tech is the "walk out" part. You walk into the store, grab an item and leave. BingBox you have to scan your items.
