Turkey’s indigenous main battle tank gets facelift after Euphrates Shield operation

“We have been exhibiting two different versions of the Altay at the IDEF,” Görgüç said.

“One of them is the standard version and the other is what we have been working on the last five to six months,” the Otokar CEO said. “In line with experiences from the Euphrates Shield operation, we have added some new systems to the standard Altay,” he said on May 9, adding that the company undertook the development to display its commitment and readiness to start mass production.

I know it, but doesn't change the fact it's a beauty.:smitten:

Yes, I am anxiously waiting active kill system and hope that it will be AKKOR. You know that Rheinmetall wants to upgrade together with Aselsan Leo 1 and Leo 2 s in Turkey but German Gov. blocks it cause PKK pressure.

I am sad to say that I have heard a rumor that Akkor had troubles and requires technical assistance from an international vendor.

Hopefully not true but completely possible. I remember writing a long time ago when discussing Akkor here that I had fears our engineers would build it around attacking smaller unguided launchers like the LAW and RPG7 but it may possibly run into issues against high speed ATGMs and kinetic energy weapons.

If this rumor turns out to be true it seems my fear became a reality. If anyone is at IDEF try to specifically ask them was an international firm asked to provide technical assistance with Akkor.

Yes. Rheinmetall tries to get permission from German Gov. but there is too much political pressure from Leftist opposition and PKK. They want to upgrade and equip Leo1,Leo2 with ADS .

This system could be used for ALTAY too.

He says their system is much more advanced than the other systems currently in use and are currently in full swing development and will be ready when Altay gets in service

I hope that is true but that is just a pr speech to be fair - it does not address the specific question of outside assistance. I was hoping someone would get a chance to specifically ask was an outside firm brought in for assistance.

The only reason I think it is important that we find out is because if it was a European firm this will be a major headache for us, they will do everything in their power to restrict its terms of use and export as well as blocking technological transfer. At the end of the day it makes the European firms blood boil to see our industry capabilities develop.

Israeli or Russian assistance would be far more fruitful for our future capability development as they have no problem with tech transfers.

Either way it is really important that we find out who assisted (if the rumor is true).

On another note regarding the Atlay AHS - Am I the only one concerned with the fact that the Commanders dedicated CITV station has been replaced by a remote weapons station and a significantly smaller thermal camera.

Buddy, here is the news . O.C. Kurd Sevim Dagdelen from LINKE mentions it together with CAN Dündars site Correctiv as "Crime".
Company is already to start at facilities in Istanbul and Izmir, looking for engineers and staff to work in Turkey.

If Rheinmetall gets input into Akkor I will be very disappointed. Not only is their system completely unproven they have minimal experience in APS systems to begin with. To me it looks like Rheinmetall is only interested in setting up in our country so they get access to the military information on lessons learned from ES to boost their own capability and sales to other countries.

Completely agree to you. They want coproduce also vehicles for export in Türkiye, ADS is for my opinion a "lollipop" for us.

They got a first contract from Australia for ADS, AMAD from BAE was also on the shortlist.
