Altaf Hussain quits MQM’s helm once again
LONDON/KARACHI: Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Chief Altaf Hussain has once again announced to step down from the party’s helm over worries apparently spawned by a statement from Federal Defence Minister Khawaja Asif.
According to statement issued from the party’s International Secretariat in London, “Khawaja Asif said the genuine Mohajirs are immigrants from Jalandhar and Ludhiana.”
Unsettled over the statement of the defence minister, Altaf Hussain complained that the members of National Assembly listened to Khawaja Asif pass this statement but as silent spectators.
Voicing disappointment over the statement and concomitant lack of response from the parliamentarians, the MQM’s London-based founder pointed out that at least two million people emigrated into Pakistan around partition of the sub-continent.
“I am wholly disappointed; hence, I cannot lead the party any longer,” he added.
Meantime, the MQM’s Coordination Committee overnight announced to hold a press conference at 11am this morning in connection with the same statement. –SAMAA
