All out effort to carry out first flight of Rustom-2 this month

First revealed at DefExpo India 2014, Rustom-2 indigenously developed HALE (high altitude, long endurance) Class Unmanned Aerial Vehicle developed by Aeronautical Development Establishment (ADE) is officially 18 months behind schedule from its earlier marked/scheduled first flight in early Feb last year.

Sources in DRDO close to idrw.org have informed us that all out effort has been made to carry out first flight of Rustom-2 this month and team is working around the clock to make first flight happen by end of this month .
Sources close to idrw.org in past have blamed non-supply of actuators which were to be installed on Rustom-2 by Moog Inc of USA which was denied re-export Clearance by US State department due to Missile Technology Control Regime (MTCR) restrictions, which allowed engineers to work on Indigenous replacements and also integrate few sensor payloads in the first two prototypes .

Rustom-2 a HALE Class UAV will be India’s first effort to locally develop US ‘Predator’ type drones in the country which can provide long endurance high altitude battlefield intelligence/ Reconnaissance to Indian Armed forces. Rustom-2 which weights 1.8 ton can carry 350 kg of payload and has a wingspan of 21-metre and an endurance of above 24 hours which can be deployed military missions like reconnaissance and surveillance, target acquisition, target designation, communications relay, battle damage assessment and signal intelligence.

DRDO also has plans to develop an Armed variant of Rustom-2 on similar lines to armed Heron TP drones currently been purchased from Israel by India, DRDO’s associate lab is also working on miniature weapons especially to be used in drones and UCAVs.

. . . . . . .
Can we use it to get rid of terrorists in kashmir ?
We dont need to loose our army jawans fighting those scums.

. .
DRDO and their dream projects...
A few points of interest imo
1) first flight will probably get delayed by a few months or a year
2) this system if ever inducted will take atleast 15-20 years or more to get ioc
3) DRDO is an incompetent organisation and need major changes in their organisation and working methodology.
5) they spend so much time doing so many tests on their products at each stage, and finally a underperforming product is achieved.

Thank you for your important contribution..

why I'm smelling Indian Patriot in your post??

never mind....

This system will be inducted within 3 years or so.You've to understand the very fact that this is first true MALE UCAV India is making.so delay will happen.Delay of one year or so is nothing comparable to the fact that Reaper Project lasted over 7 years even when this project was developed over Predator Project. So,its not so easy as it seems, even for USA and General Atomics.Plus,it is not just inducting a platform, different kind of payloads has to be tested to understand what this drone is capable of.Eg..Even though Reaper was inducted on 2007,by 2012,there was testing going on its new Landing gear,Payloads etc. So,improvement is a continuous process. You should look at Rustom-1,a testbed which is now going to be inducted as UCAV(a role nobody thought it'd perform).Apart from this,we've gained valuable knowledge of Pulsejet propelled UAV,ATOL capability and capability to carry Helina. So,when somebody criticize DRDO over Rustom-1,I only show them these pics...

Is that some kind of rocket or what above the UAV?

Do I become unpatriotic if I criticize a organization like DRDO? If you don't criticize them, how can you expect them to improve?
All I am saying is that DRDO cause delays in most of their projects and the end product is also not up to to the mark of the Armed forces requirement. In complex systems like LCA, delays are understandable because of our lack of technology...but why is it so difficult for us to develop a UAV (of which most critical and complex part, the engine is imported)...and we get beaten by Pakistan in the deployment of a UCAV. Engineering college students can build a UAV (if they are funded) in a faster time then DRDO.
