Ali Ahmed Kurd has been given one of the highest US Award Kentucky-Colonel Award by Governor of Kentucky state during his recent US visit.

Muhammali Ali (boxer), President Johnson and Churchil are amongst others who had received this award in the history.

Kurd should be lauded for leading the Lawyers' Movement. It set a precedent for our country... wish there were more people like him and the others who struggled for the restoration of the CJ to show the citizens of this country that the fight for principle does not need to go in vain.

And someone mentioned him as a RAW agent, on what basis is this accusation being made. The country, it's constitution and its principles are way more important than any institution that does not even form its backbone. It's the judiciary, executive and legislature which need to be upheld first and foremost. You can't let go of them! Besides, the same logic can be applied the other way round and said that military dictators have done little when it comes to setting up standards as far as upholding democracy is concerned or for that matter even upholding the Constitution and Pakistan's image world over has been tarnished because of it.

Indeed - Kurd and the lawyers led a 'Direct Action' of sorts to restore what was largely considered an impartial and independent judiciary led by the now restored Chief Justice, Chaudhry Iftikhar.

As Elmo said, it was a shining precedence for Pakistan in that a largely peaceful movement for 'change' grew so strong that it actually brought about change.

That this occurred in the backdrop of the 'violent and barbaric movement for change in Pakistan', led by the Taliban and other extremists, makes it all the more poignant.

Of late some groups of lawyers have resorted to violence and other illegal acts against members of law enforcement and the media, which has taken some of the sheen of the lawyers, but the senior figures in the lawyers community have come out to condemn these acts and will hopefully knock some sense into the rogues in their midst.
