Why does Algeria need to spend a lot on military? perhaps as a reward for having crushed the democratically elected FIS and then keeping the Bouteflika cu*t in power.
Same story like everywhere else in Muslim countries with a strong military.
Algeria is a big country, why not develop your own arms industry. Some of those $ billions spent on russian industry making jobs for Russians can be spent inside developing your own industry and making jobs and keeping your bright people inside...just my thoughts.
Who is the enemy....for so much $$ spent...They have a healthy and functioning defense industry and local productions but they are also purchasers. They do both things.
