Algeria cuts diplomatic relations with Morocco

Qatar? I like Algeria because I like it and its people. Not because of you. Situation in region is a lot more complex than ties with Israel. It's matter of irreligious people. Once people come back to religion with sincerity than we will see real change. All political developments are symptoms of disease and not disease itself.
"Situation in region is a lot more complex than ties with Israel" ?? As far as you're concerned, you wouldn't know whether I am one of the architects of Algerian foreign policy. How would you, a foreigner, know anything about how we tackle Morocco, a long time ally of Israel ?

I am not talking about Algeria-Morocco dispute nor familiar with it. Was talking about overall state of people. Which is beyond politics.

ALGIERS, Aug 24 (Reuters) - Algeria cut diplomatic relations with Morocco on Tuesday, citing what it called hostile actions by its most populous neighbour with which it has had strained relations for decades.

Speaking at a news conference in Algiers, Foreign Minister Ramdane Lamamra accused Morocco of using Pegasus spyware against its officials, supporting a separatist group and failing in bilateral commitments, including on the Western Sahara issue.

"The Moroccan kingdom has never stopped its hostile actions against Algeria," he said, announcing the immediate cessation of ties. Consulates in each country, however, will stay open, he added.

Morocco's Foreign Ministry said in a statement published on social media that it regretted what it called an unjustified decision and said it would remain a "credible and loyal partner" to the Algerian people.

While the border between the two North African powers has been closed since 1994, diplomatic relations have not been broken since they were restored in 1988 following an earlier dispute.

Morocco has said for years it wants the border to reopen. Algeria has said it must stay shut for security reasons.

Last week Algeria said lethal wildfires were the work of two groups it has labelled terrorists, including the MAK group which seeks independence for the Kabylie region and which Algeria said was backed by Morocco, without presenting evidence.

Algeria recalled its ambassador last month after a Moroccan diplomat in New York called for the Kabylie people to have the right of self-determination.

Morocco offered to send help to combat the fires, but there was no public response from Algeria.

Relations have deteriorated since last year, when the Western Sahara issue flared up after years of comparative quiet. Morocco regards the disputed territory as its own. Algeria backs the Polisario independence movement.

The Polisario said in November it was resuming its armed struggle. In December, the United States recognised Moroccan sovereignty over Western Sahara in return for Rabat upgrading its relations with Israel.

Morocco has called Algeria "the real party" to the Western Sahara dispute.

"Algeria will remain firm in its positions on the issue of Western Sahara," Lamamra said.
He also accused Morocco of using Pegasus spyware for espionage against several Algerian officials. Morocco has denied possessing the software.

I am an academic, never cared at all about Moroccan politics whatsoever. So this is what got me interested :

Since Dec. 2020 when Morocco normalized with Israel, the following are two of its most serious provocations it made toward its neighbor Algeria:

1) The Moroccan secret services used the Pegasus spyware developed by the Israeli company NSO, to try to penetrate the phones of high-ranking Algerian personalities, including the Chief of Staff and the Minister of Foreign Affairs.

2) The Moroccan ambassador to the UN sent a note to all UN members declaring Morocco's complete support for the partitioning of Algeria into two separate countries.

For these two gravely breaches alone, Morocco is no longer welcome in the North African union of friendly nations. Borders are sealed and diplomatic ties with Morocco are severed. Algeria's FM recently stated that mediation is out of question. Only time will tell what Morocco's future will become in the midst of the North Africa region.

Oh come on,no more refugees here. Fight the war and keep them all there please. If a war starts, half of Algeria and Morocco will get on a boat and try to come to Europe.
The immigrants from Africa to France, are citizens of France. Just like the Blacks in America are citizens of the US. They're not going anywhere. Get used to it.

Do you know this guy ? Zinedine Zidane, an Algerian who's parents migrated to France for labor work. Former Captain of the French Soccer Team, gave France the World Cup in 1998 against Brazil. Today he is the coach of Real Madrid.

Announcement from the Moroccan Foreign Ministry:

The Kingdom of Morocco has taken note of the unilateral decision taken by the Algerian authorities to sever diplomatic relations with Morocco from today onwards.

Morocco regrets this completely unjustified and expected decision - in light of the logic of escalation observed in recent weeks - as well as its impact on the Algerian people. And flatly rejects the false, even absurd, pretexts underlying it.

For its part, the Kingdom of Morocco will remain an honest and faithful partner of the Algerian people and will continue to work wisely and responsibly for the development of healthy and fruitful Maghreb relations.

Le Royaume du Maroc a pris note de la décision unilatérale des autorités algériennes, de rompre, à partir de ce jour, les relations diplomatiques avec le Maroc.

Oh so now France is good. "No France,no European colonialism" but then mass immigration to France,Spain,Italy and Britain.

Yes,I know Zidane and he's a legend.

In another post of yours, you talked about how immigrants have turned Paris into a muslim place with areas where stores shut down on Friday for prayer etc. etc. In a few words, they are trying to change the place into a little a Maghreb. Where's the good in that when masses of people go to live in a country with a completely different culture and religion and want to change it into the place they left from and demand more "tolerance". Of course there are many exceptions.Brilliant people who are good examples to their people. Mostly sportsmen, actors, artists etc. But when you go to Paris,Berlin or London and wonder if you are in Somalia or the Middle-East,you know there's something wrong with the liberal leftist policies of the West...

You can't choose only Zidane. It is all or nothing. "It's the chicken coming back to roost".
Europe colonized the Third World, now Europe becomes the Third World. France within less than 50 years will become a Muslim country.

By the way, my French is even much more fluent than my English. I love the French culture for what it is, French enlightenment that believed in democracy, but I despise French colonialism that had destroyed all of Africa.

Well all these colonial powers pay for their sins, but don't expect me to like the fact that Europe is becoming a hub for immigrants and refugees who hate European culture and Christian civilization.

Fact of nature, what comes around goes around. I miss Paris of years ago, Quartier Latin, les Champs Elysées, but the Right Wing in France has been too arrogant with the immigrants. They kinda deserve what's happening over there now.

Very few know that the symbol of Paris, the Eiffel Tower, is actually from colonized lands. The iron it was build with was actually brought from Algeria.

It is not feasible plus it is only comments exchanged and the Israel part has nothing to do with it they are irrelevant here it is just you pushing them here for an argument sake.. You are using them as a card to bargain with..:lol:
Morocco + IsraHELL = 2 Brothers from Hell.

Morocco 1957, in the words of the representative of the Kingdom of Morocco to the United Nations, defends Algeria's right to achieve independence..

In short, the continuation of Algeria as a state has become threatened due to the economic crisis and the great rift in Algerian society, which may develop at any moment into a civil war. Therefore, Algeria needs an external enemy to unite the people.

Of course, it does not dare to approach France..so it is not suitable for this role..

Remains Morocco , and the justification is to remind the Algerian people of any dispute that occurred 3,000 years ago until today. You might think that It is exaggerated, but this is what happened to the Algerian army a few weeks ago. It accused Morocco of betraying an Algerian king 3,000 years ago and blames Mohammed VI the current king of Morocco for that and considers it a justification for hostility!!!

While the Algerian opposition in France asks Algerians to cut ties with France
The Republic of Kabylia was founded in France
It has a currency, a passport, a president and a government-in-exile
What are you waiting for..

The real Algerian problem is with France..
" The real Algerian problem is with France. " Algeria's real problem is with the Arab bedouins
like Saudi Arabia who are still living in Jahilyia.

Instead of obsessing over Algeria, a country you hate so much yet you know nothing about, Talk about your country Saudi Arabia. Here's my favorite topic: The Assassination of Jamal Khashoggi by the Saudi Government.
