Crossfire War - India States Western Border Vulnerable to Infiltration

By Willard Payne

Crossfire War - ISLAMABAD - BEIJING - TEHERAN WATCH - South Asia Theatre: Islamabad - Beijing - Teheran - Kabul - Katmandu - Dhaka - Sir Creek/Gujarat - Srinagar - Delhi; India Border Security States Western Border Region Vulnerable to Infiltration - Grenade Attacks in Srinagar - Kashmir

Night Watch: SIR CREEK - Brigadier N D Prased, head of India's Border Security Force (BSF) warned in an interview with All India Radio (AIR), "Militants and criminals are looking to use border out posts at Creek region as a possible infiltration route because of the fencing along other sections of the border." He is referring to the Sir Creek river region right on the Pakistan/India coast on the Arabian Sea. Prased continued by saying Islamic militant units, based in Pakistan, are planning to send arms and ammunition through sea routes and may target oil refineries on or near the coast. [IRNA]

India Army Intelligence stated in the spring, from information they have received, Islamic militants infiltrating into the country have been ordered to lay low and conduct an "intense" terror attack in late summer. If successful that would force Delhi to activate its "hot pursuit" policy and attack the militant bases not only in Pakistan but in Bangladesh also. That would make set off the fourth war between them since independence in 1947.

In today's action in Kashmir KONS, reports seven Indian security personnel and two were injured in a series of grenade attacks in Srinagar. [KONS]

Isn't Brigadier an army rank? Does it mean officers are deputed from Army to BSF or the author got it wrong?

irfan,

The BSF must have set up in similar to other paramilitary forces, that is quite same as the army in rank structure, but at the same time, I have seen somewhere someone addressing the regional chief of BSF, as DIG, which is a police rank

Thx Adux. That's what I thought. So the author got it wrong as BSF has a police like and not army like ranks.

The author is wrong, it is setup in police rank basis

Its an article posted by Munshi. Why do you even bother reading it?

Ajai Raj Sharma new BSF chief

NEW DELHI: Delhi Police Commissioner Ajai Raj Sharma took over as the new director general of world's largest para-military force, BSF succeeding Gurbachan Jagat, who retired on Sunday.
In a simple ceremony at the DG's office here, Sharma, a decorated IPS officer of the 1966 batch from Uttar Pradesh cadre, received the baton from his predecessor and batch-mate Jagat, who had been heading the BSF since November 2000.
Describing Sharma as a brilliant officer, the outgoing chief, an IPS oficer from Punjab cadre, said he was satisfied to hand over charge to "a good human being."
Terming his assignment as a "new challenge," Sharma, who had been heading the Delhi Police since 1999 said: "It was a matter of great privilege to lead one of the world's largest para-military forces."
Sharma, whose appointment comes at a time when Indo-Pak tensions fuelled by Pak-sponsored cross border terror are running high, however, declined to comment on the situation along the border saying it was "too premature" to do so.
Earlier, the new Bsf chief received a traditional guard of honour given by the Bsf constabulary and was also introduced to senior officers.

Assam rebels kill 10 soldiers

Soldiers killed five rebels in their hideout

Separatist rebels in India's northeastern state of Assam have attacked an army patrol, killing two soldiers and injuring 10.
The attack was in retaliation for the killing of five rebels by Indian soldiers, a spokesman for the rebel United Liberation Front of Assam (Ulfa) told the BBC.

Military officials have admitted that two soldiers were killed and several others were injured in the rebel attack but did not specify the number of people injured.

On Tuesday, soldiers raided a rebel hideout in a village in the state and killed the men in a shoot-out which lasted an hour.

The army said the rebels were responsible for extorting money from residents around the state capital, Guwahati and were also planning a major offensive.

"We ... recovered two AK-56 rifles, three pistols and a vast number of documents and ammunition," Brigadier ND Prasad of the Indian army said.

Army action

The BBC's Subir Bhaumik says more than 10 rebels, mainly belonging to the Ulfa, have been killed by the army in the past four days.

Military operations were stepped up throughout the state following the recent assassination of a state minister, Nagen Sarma in a bomb attack.

The ULFA admitted it carried out the bombing.

The group is fighting for an independent Assamese homeland has been locked in a low intensity warfare with Indian forces for a decade.

Shows the depth of research in the article,
my 8th grade poem on love which i handed over to my first ever girlfriend have more value than this.

So I am assuming that all those who have commented deny that India would under any circumstances pursue suspected militants into either Pakistan or Bangladesh.

I would support hot persecute if they are 'MILITANTS' and the country they are hiding in is not taking action against them....

I hope Munshi you will agree these militants or militancy is bad for any country ....

Who cares whether we confirm or deny that. If India wants to do it, they bloody will. Fcuk, no one is going to prosecute us here for saying that India wont do it !! With many members here, its all about Submissions and Admissions!!

If India decides to do it, i for one am bloody sure that Bangladesh wont be able to stop it.

If India puts it foot in Bangladesh it will loose that foot .... We recently gave India a bloody nose when some BSF personnel entered into the country .... If there is another episode such as that it could turn into India's Vietnam or Afghanistan and India knows it. The nuclear arsenal of America and the USSR was useless in those conflicts so stop showing how big India's d*** is as BD might give you a circumcision.
