Dehati or not - I think we should leave it to Bangladesh to show the way for how 'moderate' Muslims live their lives - and that too in harmony with minorities. Faltoo comments from less informed imbeciles notwithstanding - Bangladesh I think has been a far better model for communal harmony than anywhere in Pakistan or Western India. South India is maybe as tolerant - but I don't know. Maybe one of Southern Indian brothers or sisters can weigh in.

The level of secular culture in West Bengal and Bangladesh is an example for Western India (and maybe Pakistan) to emulate. Secularism comes from (and is seeded by) a strong intellectual middle-class that resists cultural attempts by extremist philosophies to take over. It is a philosophy of intellectual meritocracy that is quite weak ( some would say absent) in Western India. The basis of this culture is a well-founded respect for tolerance and diversity in religion and culture and permissive attitudes about fringe-dwelling philosophies in society (i.e. Rituporno Ghosh).

Witness how little headway extremist organizations (both Hindu and Muslim) have made in West Bengal and Bangladesh and how present they are in Maharashtra, Gujarat and other Western and Northern Indian states.

The war in India will be fought not between religions but between secularism and extremism.

Why can't India's Muslim ideology (or Pakistan's for that matter) follow Bangladesh' model (which again is close to Indonesian and Malaysian Muslim philosophies) in how it is tolerant to other religions?

We can have a model of Islamization that is modern and tolerant like Malaysia, Indonesia or even Bosnia or Turkey. Why should we model it after Saudi Arabia?

I suggest you reconsider your attitude toward and lumping together 23% of the residents in the world as 'D**k heads'. Not all Muslims are fanatics or suicide bombers.
