Al Jazeera: Bangladesh’s Most Wanted Criminal Operating Network from Budapest

Everyone is busy demonising the Army Chief.
Can we at least give him credit for suiting up for a flight?

One thing to note is that Hasina looks after anyone who has been loyal to her, even if he goes on to commit murders.
You’re gonna ignore his dance moves?
Bangladesh is doomed lol , I don't have much hope for my people
You’re in America. Don’t worry about this shithole

Sounds just like our convicted criminal PM Nawaz Sharif of Pakistan:

This is exactly what these family enterprises want to do with our army. Can not explain in better words the rift that has always existed between these families and army. They wanted to use army, the last autonomous institute to strengthen their grip and subvert the state.

Exactly, this is all they ever wanted. This is what irks them when they see they have everyone from judiciary to revenue, tax to land record, police to other law enforcement, media to journalism then why not the armed forces as well. So that they also dance on their tunes and sing their lullaby.

Zardari succeeded in corrupting top brass of the Pakistan Navy in the 90s and Shehbaz Sharif's corruption with General Kiyani is well known. Then came uncorruptable PM Imran Khan and all this whining / crying started :D

Wow - great expose piece. I guess the local surveillance skillset is getting to be better than many neighbor countries.

BAL has targeted the local surveillance skillset at the political opposition so neighbouring countries have nothing to worry about.

Al Jazeera is having a field day in Bangladesh.

Al Jazeera is blocked in Bangladesh. It has been since they did a documentary on forced political disappearances.

@Black.Mamba You do see that the tussle between army and Sharif's is actually a clash between desi culture and western systems? Sharif represents the age old desi culture of a patriarch who as the elder runs everything aas he thinks is fit and relies on his family and biradri connections to spin out a web to control everything. Famility loyalty, biradri connections and patronage in terms of positions of power and money are given to sustain rule. This form of desi culture has been around for centuries. The Maliks, Khans, Moguls, Chaudries, Makhdooms etc have been around for centuries. The underlying rule is based on family, blood, clan, biradri and money. This is how South Asia was ruled for centuries. If you look at Sharif you will notice surfiet of Dars, Khwajas, Butts etc. We all know which community they come from - hint: same as Sharif.

The army on the other hand is entirely a western product. It's birth, it's lineage and it's systems are all organic to British and western civilization. There is nothing about the army that is desi. As a organization it functions within the systems set up by British which themselves were brought to South Asia from Europe.

The tension is that Sharif's and other politicians have bent other institutions and injected them with desi culture. However the army remains almost 100% as a western insitution with organizational and process inherited from Sandhurst, West Point rather than Raiwind or Bilawaal House or the local madaris.

It is the supreme clash between desi and western thought.
