Upgraded TYPE-56 Assault rifles with folding-stock for lighter weight which is ideal for Paratroopers. Telescopic scope with laser designators (laser dot sights), rails for maximum accessories such as flashlights, and an extra grip for better accuracy.

But POF has started to manufacture an AK version, most probably AK-47, as its been shown in last few defence exhibitions.

Its a good move. This weapon is very liked by the PA troops and very useful in the tribal area operations too, as well as on many other theater of operations.

Basically Type 56 Assault Rifle is a Chinese copy/version of Russian AK-47.

Bezerk and Taimi (and anyone else who can elaborate) - the AK version shown in use by the SSG does not appear to have the wood furniture (right before the barrel where the second hand grip is attached) seen on the Type 56 images posted.
