on topic, is a sub machine gun compatible in jungle warfare? we need more long range shots(AKs, 7.62X39) than mere pistol cartiriges which is used in SMGs..

in most terrains this is how most western SF teams organise:

-there is a machine gunner who carries the m60/minimi

-operators who are good at close range shooting use the 5.56 m4/m16 and now added to the arsenal is the hk416.

-long range shooters prefer the 7.62 x 51 mm NATO round ,newly developed arms in use are-

1) FN SCAR in SCAR -H config for the 7.62 NATO round and SCAR-L for the 5.56 round and the MK 16 mod 0 for CQBR replacing the M14.

2) HK 417,20 round magazine

3)LWRC SABR with barrel changes can be used as both an assault rifle and sniper rifle. green berets have liked this configuration.


as far as the new rounds are concerned i.e 6.5 grendel/6.8 SPC the 6.8 has seen some action in iraq.
