MUMBAI: Russia's Kalashnikov Concern, makers of AK-47 assault rifles, is in advanced discussions with Indian companies to manufacture certain weapons here and is open to sharing technology with local partners.

Known as one of the best assault rifles of the 20th century, AK-47s are now being reportedly used more by non- state agents than national defence personnel.

For many years now, Russia has officially stopped supplying these fine automatic rifles to the country.

we need a bulpup version assuslt rifle that is not more than 3Kg empty wieght with an 18" barrel and 5.62X45mm callibur with a western type charging handle and piccatennirails on 12,3,6&9 O clock positions for all those UBGL & all kinds of speical sights

Hard to maintain, requires more training and unreliable....not a good option for equipping a huge force like India's.

I can't understand weapons other than Natural/Fictional weapons For which I don't need brain .

wrong infact bullpups are more easy to clean and maintain and are less bulkier and deu to most of the machenical parts in behind the trigger machenism its more easy to aim and since it has same leanth barrel as the larrge rifels it is easy to switch rools from a normal long range engament area to close quaterr conditions for example tevor what we need is a cross between a tevor and an AK

All of them in field face the same problem man. The spaces inbetween the parts are too small and debris tends to get stuck in between. This is sen from Steyr-AUG to the latest Tavor. The manufacture of parts are also too much precision guided.

british , french , israeli , german , chinese and many others are using bullpups even then there might be a reason for that

thing is we need to locally produce tevors under make in india programme by that we can bring down its cost to almost 750$$s (a source told me) and mind you tevor is in testing and use in deserts and high altitude battle areas where is very sucsessfull to me time of AK is over but i maight be wrong .... cheers mate

Ok...[lease leave the Chinese out of this. Germans use the G 36, British French and Israeli troops dont have the size of Indian armed forces. it is much easier to make a conventional one than milling a Bullpup. That is what I feel. Like they say...Opinions are like assholes.

well times have changed and so have the tools & materials for manufacturing a gun housed in a renforced polymar body with new gen materials like alluminium and titanium allowys can easly do the job all we need is will money , materials and technology is all there ... a bullpup is always better than a conventional layowt design onli drawback i see of a bullpup design is since the combustion chamber is very close to the nose and eyes something needs to be done rest i find no drawback to bullpup design

OFBS AK 47 clone is already being made. The Russians are too late. Why pay hard currency when youre already making the weapon at home?
