I have been one of the severe critics of Air India but I am glad to say that this year, having flown 5 return trips internationally and several locally within India, there seems to have been improvements operationally. May be I am lucky but 100% of my flights have either been on time or early - even though I did read reports that day after and the day before two of my internal trips, the passengers were straded due to cancellation!
Food has been ok both in biz class and economy; though I'd expect a slightly better fare in biz class than I got. The booze has bee v.good though.
The Air India website needs UX improvements - it is almost like a bunch of programmers designed it. For example in some forms if type 51 instead of 051, it won't find that flight! that part is just irritating.
The Flying Returns ffb is very very very good. Ever since Continental merged with United, I have been looking for a better program and I think this one is better. Plus Star Alliance benefits are worthwhile.
Air India Maharajah lounges are fantastic but in many airports the booking agents do not know which lounge to send me to - based on the biz class tkt or based on the Maharajah Club membership. They should know to tell me which lounge is better (ie which hs better scoth and better dessertte!). For example in the Mumbai domestic airport I went to a lounge that served a decent pav bhaji and red label...later I found there was another one with lot more choices.
Inflight entertainment has become excellent - movie choices, games, etc and the normal AI seat is as comfortable as the UA Economy Plus.
And baggage allowance is far superior than UA.
So Air India, well done on your redemption. Stop favoring employees's relatives with special favors and keep up the good work
