What's new

Air India flies Delhi-San Francisco nonstop over Pacific, and into record books

Direct flights between India and North America will cut into gulf carrier markets. Even other airlimes like jet should try these flights

BTW they are using Boieng 777 why not use A380's. They have larger capacity. all major airports of India - Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore , Hyderabad are A380 compliant. Using A380 will give big boost in prestige and revenue
air india sold most of its 777-200lr (long range) to etihad because it anticipated the americain market would be big but that weren't the case so they were sold.
air india has a large number of 787-8's so i suspect it would be used. its small size, high effeciency and long range make it perfect and low risk for a non stop service.
a380's are a whole new ball game, airlines are scared of buying them in fear of not filling the seats. the a380 is perfect for high density routes and global hubs. this makes the a380 perfect for airports like heathrow lax, dubai, and jfk. where the vast majority of a380's operate.
malaysia is dumping two a380's as they are not needed, and god knows how thai airlines is coping with them.
but singapore and soon emirates will return old a380's to their lessors (owners) after completing their 10 year lease. so theres a good opportunity to have high density cheap tickets routes, on leasing used a380's
