Air Forces of South China Sea claimants

Air power is the most important determinant of modern warfare. Control of the skies allows the attacker to rain missiles and bombs on the hapless defenders underneath.

The major claimants to the South China Sea are: China, Taiwan, Vietnam, Philippines, and Malaysia. I'll include Indonesia, because the Indonesian president has been mouthing off lately.

The military pecking order of the South China Sea claimants are as follows.

China: 834 modern fourth-generation fighters with more built each month
Taiwan: 325
Vietnam: 48
Malaysia: 38
Indonesia: 28
Philippines: 0

In conclusion, we only care about China's and Taiwan's policy pronouncements about the South China Sea. The other claimants are simply too weak to mount a credible challenge for air superiority.

Below datas from Chinese military forum (2013 PLAAF):
J-10A: 252x

已经公布装备J-10的部队共有空军8个团和海航的1个团还有81表演队的半个团12架。估计至少还有一个团没公布。所以歼十A型产量10×24+12=252架。 J-11B：约100架 歼11B2008年小批量进入部队服役，2009年正式服役。以沈飞的产能计算至少每年交付2个团。(J11A停产，还有95架SU27的零件没组装)所以J11B=4×24+N架小批量=100架 J-11A/国产化SU27：105架 1996年我国与俄罗斯签署协议，俄罗斯授权中国自行组装生产200架SU27，由苏霍伊提供零部件，但后来沈飞以SU27性能不达标为由停止了生产。到2006年最后一架J-11A下线为止沈飞共组装生产了105架J-11A。余下95套零件由中国自行处理 SU27SK/UBK：48架 1990年我国首度引进SU27系列战机，俄罗斯共计向我方提供了76架SU27SK/UBK。2010年我国首批SU27一个团退役。再加上90年代在广东台风吹坏了几架su27，我国还剩下约2个团的老式SU27共计48架。 FBC-1飞豹/飞豹A：约200架 飞豹2000年定型生产。老飞豹装备了大约两个团(现在很多老豹子都改成了电战型)，2005年新飞豹装备部队，按照西飞以每年交付1个团的最低标准飞豹A装备了至少6个团，加上老豹2个团。FBC-1飞豹数量为8×24=192架 苏-30MKK/MK2：100架这个不解释，是人都知道我国装备了100架苏30。 所以我国目前三代机数量为250架歼10+105架歼11A+100架歼11B+100架苏30+50架苏27+200架飞豹=800架左右

No. This is a military forum. I would have skipped Indonesia if the Indonesian president did not involve himself.

I write updates every once or two years on South China Sea military power by country. I wrote one a few years ago on CDF. It was time for an update.
