Dhaka, Apr 5 (bdnews24.com) – Air Force squadron leader Mamunur Rashid, who was looking into allegations that some Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) members looted over Tk 20 million from a shrine, has been found dead in a Chittagong hotel.

His body was discovered at a room of Silver Inn, Chittagong Metropolitan Police's assistant commissioner Abdul Mannan said.

Mamun, 45, was conducting a departmental investigation and checked in at the hotel on Wednesday night and his body was found on Thursday noon, he added.

"Police recovered the body around 1:30pm after the hotel authorities informed us that he had not responded to calls since morning," the police officer said.

The elite force's intelligence wing director Ziaul Ahsan told bdnews24.com that flight lieutenant Sheikh Mahmudul Hasan was one of the accused in a case filed over the looting.

"Mamun went to Chittagong for a departmental investigation against [Hasan]," he said.

According to the registration book of the hotel, Mamun was the son of Mujibur Rahman from Rangpur.

He was working at the Kurmitola base legal wing, RAB officials said.

A RAB informer was held on Mar 18 after Mohammad Idris, a driver of Talsara Darbar Sharif at Anwara, had filed a case on Mar 13 against former chief of RAB-7 Lt Col Zulfikar Ali Majumdar and 11 others deputed to RAB-7 stationed in Chittagong.

He had accused them of looting money from the shrine on Nov 4 last year.

The RAB personnel were withdrawn to their own forces after the case.

good riddance....corrupt officer dying, one less of a maggot on the face of the earth:chilli:

Officer died was investigating alleged crime of other junior officer and was hundreds of miles away from crime scene when it happened. Have you dropped in your head or something? You are making yourself matter of laughing stock.

. .
Rab officials confirmed it was a normal death but further investigation can give us some interesting news.

Oh God!

People celebrating the death of their own service officer.

It is really sad that this class of people (although small in number) with mercenary mentality with no principal exists.

.
RIP to the dead officer, I smell that some thing fishy has happened,. an individual investigation should be initiated if the officer died of natural cause or if found other wise, I say capture the corrupt people and put them on trail for the officers death.

Exactly, RAB is accused of criminal activity and was investigated by deceased squadron leader Mamunur Rashid. Now RAB which is accused of criminal activity saying it was natural death, is completely motivated.

RAB should not be even in the investigation team, period.

RAB was created by Khaleda and given too much power without accountability. Now Hasina and RAWamy League are using it I heard. Another example of power corrupts.
