Air Force aims higher - Seeks major purchases by 2021

Well, you did not get me. I am not opponent to SAMs. We need SAMs to fill the gap of the defficiency of the airforce for good fighters. If you just take out all the fighters and deploy only SAMs, how long will you be able to hold? 2 days at best I suppose.
Against India yes we do need more fighters as well as SAMs but not by reducing the fighters.

I am not for reducing fighters, but replacing them.Replacing the Mig-29s with something more agile and inexpensive to maintain.

Gripen is Swedish fighter and would be a fine choice if we can afford them. Moreover we don't have any ban on them like Pakistan. But the question is with its maintenance. Is it maintenance friendly? Can anyone shed some light on it.
Yes, Gripens are maintenance friendly but initial cost is astronomical compare to JF-17/FC-1 or F-7BGS. Throughout the lifecycle, cost of the latest Gripen(NG) would even out with our Mig-29s but it would have a lot of restrictions and strings attached, since SWEDE isn't out of NATO/Uncle's radar. And for our perspective, it's a big 'No' because a squadron or two (that would cost around $1.5-2 B) wouldn't make any difference in front of 98 MKIs and 68SMTs. Although, by that amount 20,000 rockets, SAMS of different ranges and few squadron fighters/interceptors like custom FC-1 could be acquired. Weapon business is one of the most lucrative ones for western world and with gradual Chinese know-how, they will lose that money making machine. Now, the question, whether or not we want to add more fuel on their machine for window-dressing or want to have potent defence with strategic, smart and appropriate thinking?

J-10 might be a good choice too.
Jf-17 is cost effective, but it serves a different role. But BAF might be interested in it.According to some reports,BAF showed interest on Jf-17s.
About Mig numbers, since its disputed, let's be prudent and assume we have 8.As far as I know we have 8,and other 8's order was cancelled by Khaleda Zia.
IMHO 3 squadrons of custom J-10 could augment FC-1s very well and it would be wise to get rid of those MIG duds. BTW, those duds are way behind to have a platform to get SMT make over and carry good AAM, AsHM etc, let alone having BVRs under its current wings. Conniving Indians fed us those junks to get a great deal on their Mig-29Ks though.

Our 16 MiG-29s are fully functional and was sent to Ukrain to maintanence. We will use them untill the money we have put in them are returned.

off topic:

were they gifts/donations or did we buy them?Must have been a long time ago.

After 71 war, Indian troops have looted :smokin:our wealth even they took curtain ( Which is well known to all BD people):D.

Price of an old jet fighter can be compared with that of an old automobile. If it was a mistake to purchase those Migs, then it will be a double mistake to sell them now. Because the sell will not give us good price. Moreover, it is not also feasible without Russian nod, because it will supply the spares and will have to facilitate the maintenance.

It may be more prudent to keep these in our airforce and purchase a few more squadrons of another good performance fighter. Someone was telling, the Chinese J-10s can even overtake Su-30s. If China wants to sell, BD should buy it.

Major Jalil was sacked when he protested Indian soldiers taking stuffs away from Jessor Cantonment. Indian soldiers did not loot but they took away most of the Pakistan era military hardwares.

They took also machineries from many of the jute mills near border. These looting activities resulted in the anti-India phobia among the Bangladesh citizens.

And then , did we eat it or something?

BAF MiG-29's were grounded for quite a lot time due to non maintainance.
Yes, for the bless of BAL Govt. then.

Which means while you talk big you have no plans whatsoever in terms of their budget.

If needed we can manage money.Come on, even a kid will not believe we don't have budget allocation.

IAF fought two fronts in 1971. We dont have to mobilize whole of the IAF in the east to fight your country or its air force.

Yea, cuz we the then east pakistan were with u. But just think about 65, what happened?:D

I heard in 65 war, one prominent indian general made a high ambition to cupture 'Shalimerbag' of Lahore in one night with his large tank armada and wanted to breakfast next morning there.

Then Field Mershal Ayub khan asked 'who r ready to give life for their motherland?' Many Many Bengali Soidler along with Pakistani Soilder took mine in there chest and gave life to destroy the tank armada. The ambition wasn't successful.

Pakistani soilders were merely cuptured the whole Kashmir. The Russian President then said to Ayub Khan "If you not agree in a treaty, I don't know what is gonna happen next."

So, Ayub Khan and Lalbahadur Shastri went to Tashkhand and made Tashkhand Treaty.

I also heard During Hand shaking with Ayub Khan, Lalbahadur Shastri had a unfortunate heart attack.

Military hardwares which was left by Pakistani soilders were not their property but ours, then why those Dark indian angels took away those hardwares. Is that mean they were angry on Pakistani and helped us to loot their military hardwares and kick them away??

So, they destroy our Jute Industry!! How cripple!!That means they are not intended to really help us, their intention was to weaken us further and therefore they helped us?? so we have to rely on them!!

I need some more comments.... (we are going off topic but we need to know)

And then , did we eat it or something?

Please do not take my words as a ploy to spread rumour against India. After 1971, when many of our jute mills were destroyed by the Indian troops and later also by our own politicians, five more jute mills were built in India near the BD border.

If you go and check, you will find many foreign-made machineries in those factories. Indian jute mills were NOT allowed to import foreign machineries. Rather, they had to use 3rd rate Indian machineries. 3rd rate or what I appreciate the Indian import policy of those days, because India relied on self-help.

okay,uh any recent news on the air force's planned purchase?
