New Delhi: Outgoing IAF chief NAK Browne on Wednesday reviewed the progress of the Sulur air base where the force is to deploy its first squadron of the indigenously- developed Light Combat Aircraft (LCA), Tejas.

On his last visit to the Southern Air Command in Thiruvananthapuram, Browne also reviewed the preparations being made at Thanjavur air base in Tamil Nadu, which will host the first squadron of Su-30MKI aircraft in southern India to guard the Indian Ocean Region.

"During the visit, the Air Chief reviewed the progress of the first LCA base at Sulur and also the progress of work services at Thanjavur, which will be the next base for Su-30s," the IAF said in a release.

Talking to air force personnel, Browne said, "IAF is going through tremendous changes in terms of induction, modernisation and improvement. We had set very ambitious goals over the last two-and-a-half years and we have been able to achieve each one of them".

In the last three to four years, India has procured a lot of equipment for the Air Force, including the C-17 heavylift transport aircraft, Pilatus trainer aircraft. The indigenous LCA is to be inducted on December 20.

if we see tejas on paper it is far more better then many western planes like jas -39 gripin, rafale , and etc in terms of powerful engine good radar and weapon systems......and mk2 of tejas will outperform all of these mentioned planes with it more powerful engine as well as with its jammers.....

Not only that, but the generall celebration mood is not justified by anything. IOC2 is milestone, but only little one in a long journey. Having the first LCA squad in operational service with and MK2 developed, then we can say we have achieved something, while we still have to keep all the delays, problems and mistakes in mind, that happend during the journey.

Tejas still has a radar range of 45-50 km.!!:angry:

ithink gripen is behind in many aspects mk2 tejas would be a monster..


i have posted some info,compared tejas with gripen....check it out

There are many areas you have posted, where you can see there is still no match btn Gripen and LCA, MK2 will get close it, but just close to it.....Mind you that LCA and Gripen were designed for different purposes.

e.g, Can Indian operate LCA alone?, but there are countries only operating Gripen.

For me, the day Tejas achieves each and every objective of its birth, will be the day for me to say the world, here we come..Until then I will still be watching it develop.
