I dont mean a lease. I am not for spending miney unnecessarily,rather training pilots on J-10 and securing a deal with China that should the need arise, they will sell their own PLAAF aircraft to PAF on an emergency basis to fulfill number and capabilities need in a major conflict. At that point PAF would have to buy the aircraft but only do so on an emergency basis and have a cadre of pilots of F-7 or Mirage that are trained and ready to go should the need arise, but focus your current resources on JF-17. IF these last few weeks have taught anything, this is a highly capable machine that likely is capable of more than its original intent, including downing a Su-30MKI, so Pakistan should put its trust in it. Furthermore, i agree that you should seek spare F-16 IF possible but i think that will be difficult.

Ergonomics might play a huge detriment in what you are suggesting … even if we conveniently ignore other possible impediments for the time being. Everything on a Chinese fighter (i.e. made in China for China) is in Chinese. Overcoming that in real world operational terms would be a huge learning curve … don't you think?

The next plane we should buy abroad is the Turkish one under development and hopefully our Azm is ready. No need to rush to buy anything new.

Where would we lease aircraft from?
Who has spare aircraft parked up?
Where would the infrastructure for such aircraft come from, (pilots, munitions, spares, ancilliary equipment and training.)

Even if we ordered J10C today, it would be at least 2 years before a single J10C squadron could be stood up, China is going like crazy supplementing their 4th and 5th generation fleets, they will not give you a single plane from PLAAF inventory. China has major concerns with their own security situation vis a vis South China Sea. Immediate future lies in stepping up JF17 BLK3 development or picking up extra F16's, however much most members of this forum hate reliance on F16, it's the most credible and impactful plane in PAF inventory.

China is our best option , I am sure we can work something out with them. There is a higher risk of Pakistan/India conflagration than China /USA. I believe we purchased some 5 gen trainers so we have J10C compatible trained pilots already.

PAF operates F-7, JF-17, and has operated A-5 and F-6. Outside of China no one has more experience operating Chinese aircraft, so i dont think the learning curve will be significant. Additionally the JF-17 is set up very much like J-10 AND its radar/electronics are based on those of J-10. With respect to learning the actual fighter, that is why i suggested having a number of F-7 or non-ROSE Mirage pilots and techs trained on J-10 so that if a heavy conflict arises, you can buy a few squadrons from existing Chinese stocks and get them into service quickly. But given that i dont think there will be another major conflict cor quite a while, hopefully never, PAF shouldn't go outright for J-10 at this point. The only 4th gen i would go for currently is more F-16 and more JF-17. For am advanced 4+ gen fighter i think they should focus on up scaling the JF-17 to be F-16/J-10 class fighter with WS15 or AL-41 being targeted for its engine and maybe radar/EOTS/EOD from J-20.

The current F-7P/MP/PG, JF-17 and the F-6 and A-5 before them have been specifically configured (in varying degrees) for Pakistan.

In any event, that is the point if having people trained on the jets ready to go ahead of time.

In my opinion, there is a severe shortage of SAM systems to cover medium/high altitudes. It's this gap that must be filled with priority.

And that is the message the ACM should have conveyed to the PM, not the "we can defend, and we wont let the country down crap...". PAF need to fight their corner for more resources, just like the IAF and all other air arms do. Dont let your modesty get in the way of doing your job, ie trying to get better SAMs and planes so you can do your job.

Every time i hear the ACM say, "we wont let the country down" it is another way of saying, we dont need more money for more equipment. Public pressure can work in their favour if they only play the game properly...
