Wg Cmdr Abhinandan was himself Flight Commader 51 sqn. Its a senior post. He is usually OC in OC's absence.

Secondly, it was not a war but isolated mission. So I am sure the AHQ must be directly running the show and AOC went with the boys up in the air.

PAF commanders in 65 have also done the same.

And remember, Pakistan has the worlds highest officer/soldier martyr ratio. So we the Pakistanis are used to leading from the front. Like it or not.

Lets hope he gets a medal when our pilots will be honored and that will prove it

"Leading from the front" also means that you do not want to give your position of power---.

American military also led from the front and so did the british military---. The US military still does that---jr officers still lead from the front alongwith the troops---.

But they have found out---that if you train the soldiers to do those tasks---you achieve better results and ranking officers can do better things.

In " Jacobabad Diaries" our paf officers talks about american non comms taking weapons off a damaged coalition aircraft---he was surprised that an officer was not present doing that---. The reply he got was that the non comm was fully trained to do that---.

In the american war of independence---the americans started taking out the british officer thru sniper fire---. With the loss of officers at a fast pace---the british suffered a lot---.

Abhi's case is different---. To be put in the aircraft---he must have been on the flight line ready to take off---. This here is a different scenario---.

If our officer was in a surveillance aircraft---that is fine---but himself flying---that is a no no---.

AOC and all officers at the rank of Gp Capt and above were GIBS.

They were present in the war theatre to rationalise the decisions incase AD guys needed to be bypassed. It was a major operation and required extraordinary measures.
