Ahead of Modi's visit, India set to buy choppers worth $3bn from US

 Just a day before yesterday i was sad about delay in these deals :yahoo:
India plans to purchase 22 Apache AH 64D Longbow helicopters with purchase option of another 11 at the cost of $2 billion. This state-of-the-art attack helicopter will be acquired with Hell Fire missiles and around 8,000 rockets.

The helicopter has night vision capability, stealth characteristics and beyond visual range missiles.

Apart from this, India will acquire 15 CH-47 Chinook helicopters with options of another six at the cost of $1.1 billion. A twin-rotor helicopter, Chinook has proved its worth in US operations in Afghanistan and Iraq and will be used by Indian Air Force for rapid insertion of troops in high altitude areas.

Will have psychological effects on terror camps across the borders :flame:

The finance ministry has finally given a green signal to acquisition of 22 Apache attack and 15 Chinook heavy deployment helicopters worth $3.1 billion from US defence major Boeing after a delay of nearly three years and 13 price extensions.

The deal is expected to cleared by the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) next Tuesday, before Prime Minister Narendra Modi embarks on his United Nations General Assembly visit to New York.

With Boeing and US Army Security Assistance Command threatening to escalate the price after September 30 by nearly 40% after holding it steady since 2009, finance minister Arun Jaitley, defence minister Manohar Parrikar and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval put their heads together this week.

“We have conveyed our no objections to the deal being considered by the CCS,” said a senior finance ministry official.

India has vintage attack and heavy deployment helicopters only on paper.

The acquisition process of the two helicopters was started in 2009 and was expected to be completed by December 2012. However, due to bureaucratic delays both in the defence ministry and finance ministry, the acquisition has been virtually hanging fire since 2013, following completion of all negotiations.

I think with at least 50 Apaches, India will also going to buy Russian Alligator and Mi-28s too. I am sure for that.

@black-hawk_101

Pakistan Army ?
They have the super cobras in short term and Z10 for the future.

If this December is not good for Indo-Russia. relationship then most likely you will go for Mi28 along with Mi35 and the Chinese chopper will see very limited service.

-helos close air support versus helos close air support in india vs pak scenario is difficult to forsee..
-perhaps that role of close support may fall to LCA when its ready.
-The battle tactical nukes (Nasr [declared] and prahaar [undeclared]) makes the situation much different.
-if the escalation is conventional perhaps yes, you could see such a scenario
-in such a case Pak can look for Z10 preferably with a new engine (chinese) which is going online in full capacity in about 18-24 months which gives a much needed boost to payload and power

-apaches mostly if you really understand the reason for procurement will be understood with the edition India is buying.
-The AH64E longbows all means somewhere Apaches may not be in front but rather in the middle or rear and become the point of all real time data assimilation, sensor tracking and radar based tactical commandment.
-This allows the rest of our helos like Dhruva, LCH etc in large numbers to be connected and dependent upon the longbows to be their eyes and ears and they can concentrate on their missions alone.
-The KA226 will essentially become stablehorse for more sortie based support with limited firepower. They will insert quick reaction teams to neutralize the potential issues on the path. Again they may share a link to get data from longbows.
-Thus with present limited numbers 22+39 rumoured follow on + more may be later the doctrine, capability and reach of helos will change drastically.
-Apaches essentially multiplies it manifold.A wise choice as we are still long way off from developing a similar clone. And with Apache as eyes and ears, the rest can do devastating pin point work

I hope we can get some more and check if we can get some 100 or more under make in india from kits. That may help us concentrate on Dhruvas, LCH and others (LUH/Ka226) to be say around 400-600 in numbers and get a good grip over the helo fleet

84 million USD for a bite.

India should at least spend 31 billion USD on the purchase of 220 Apaches and 150 Chinooks. :D

.
Modi is using money power to make his visit to USA successful, deal is just a bribe to ask favorable statements against Pakistan / China and for U.N.S.C permanent seat.

. .
Why does every deal need to finalise during MODIS visit:undecided: . At last after three years we will finally purchase Apache and chinooks:chilli:
