Atheism scares me the sense of nothingness is one of my worse fears.

Here's an example a circumstances of how God came into being, whenever things go wrong in someone's life, they believe that some supreme power will bring balance again.

But one should know that if your life is in trouble, it's solely because of all the wrong decisions you took before, which led you to this present trouble, and the only thing that can settle things back to normal is one's judgement, patience and consciousness.

I think that is a pro for believers as it gives them peace of mind - I have always been envious of that aspect being an agnostic myself when I struggle to see light at the end of the tunnel.

Not 100% true Buddah said whether God exist or not is not the concern but the real aim is to reach Nirvana

BBC - Religions - Buddhism: Buddhism at a glance

There is no belief in a personal god. Buddhists believe that nothing is fixed or permanent and that change is always possible.

BBC - Religion - Atheism: Atheist Buddhism - Atheist Buddhism

The Buddha did not claim to be in any way divine, nor does Buddhism involve the idea of a personal god.

Theist = Someone who believes in God

Atheist = Someone who does not believe in God

I am borderline atheist too, I feel most of stories about religious gods sounded very human. In old days there was no way to have evidence. Our ancestors were taken for a ride and we just believed our ancestors. There is no logic to it. How many such god lived beyond 200 years? They all grew older and died like humans. What is god like about them?

Have to agree with u. There were great warriors and sages. A story like Ramayana and Mahabharatha would have taken place. And sages would have lived more than 150 years due to their healthy life style. Many herbal products were lost. Warriors used to go to battle even at age of 80's.
Their legend and their victories have made them Gods of future generations.

The sense of nothingness is my fear just darkness after death is what i'm scared of.

“I do not fear death. I had been dead for billions and billions of years before I was born, and had not suffered the slightest inconvenience from it.”

I don't see the point of being afraid of something so natural and inevitable as death.

It's like being afraid of breathing the air. It's going to happen eventually, and it is perfectly natural.

What do you believe happens after death?

In Buddhism it is reincarnation.

I have no idea what happens after death the concept of reincarnation does appeal to me as it will mean my soul/atman lives on even though my body does not exist. I was thinking the other day perhaps we are put here on earth by advanced beings as some sort of experiment which they are monitoring it is not scientific that we are alone in the universe heck we do not even have the tech to go out of our solar system just think how many planets like our earth there might be.

It is not death I fear which is part of life and inevitable but the feeling of nothingness after death scares me :fie:
