Agnis moved to China border | Deccan Chronicle | 2010-08-25

New Delhi, Aug. 24: In the wake of a recent Pentagon report that China is moving advanced CSS-5 ballistic missiles to areas close to the Sino-Indian border, New Delhi is clearly taking no chances.
The government is now ready to induct the nuclear-capable Agni-III ballistic missile — with a range of 3,000-3,500 km and capable of hitting targets in China — into the Indian armed forces. It is also in the process of acquiring 42 more Russian-origin Sukhoi-30 MKI frontline fighters to “populate” airbases at Tezpur and Chabua in Assam to bolster the eastern sector.

The government is also reportedly moving the strategic Agni-II missile inducted earlier to areas near the Chinese border. These have a range of around 2,000 km.
Extra land is reportedly being procured in West Bengal and elsewhere to deploy these missiles. India is also developing the Agni-V missile (with a range of 5,000 km) that could hit targets deep within China.
When contacted, Army sources on Tuesday denied that missile units had been moved to the Eastern Command due to the Chinese threat perception.
The government is also taking other steps, including raising two more Army mountain divisions (30,000 troops) that will probably be deployed on the China border.
The Cabinet Committee on Security is considering the proposal for further troops augmentation near the Sino-Indian border.

yeah, indian government stupid enough to listen to a pentagon report.

newsflash, CSS-5 is a silobased 11000 km ranged missile aimed at washington DC, why would we need to move it?

India is moving its missiles just because it has few extra pieces in its inventory. It's not really aimed at China :toast_sign: (sarcasm!)

Anyways... good to see that Agnis are all operational.

I am eagerly waiting for Agni V .... can't wait for the first test ... :smitten::smitten:

India is considering deploying its nuclear-capable ballistic missiles in the North-East close to its border with China in an apparent attempt to enhance its military preparedness.

The move comes close on the release of a report by Pentagon, which suggested that China has moved its new advanced longer range CSS-5 missiles close to its border with India and developed contingency plans to shift airborne forces to the region at short notice.

The government is considering the deployment of the 2,000 km range Agni-II and 350 km range Prithvi III surface to surface ballistic missiles close to the Chinese border, Defence Ministry sources told PTI here today.

The sources said that additional land was being procured by the Army in North-West Bengal and adjoining states for deployment of these missiles.

In the recent months, India is focussed on upgrading its military infrastructure in the North-Eastern sector to counter any Chinese threat.

The measures taken by the government include the deployment of two squadrons of the Su-30 MKI fighter jets in Tezpur and Chhabua in Assam and raising of two mountain divisions for deployment in Arunachal Pradesh and adjoining areas.

The government also revised its old military doctrine of not developing roads along the border and is working on developing over 70 strategic roads on the Sino-Indian border.

i dont think CSS-5 has to do anything with India,it is missile with a range of over 200 km,they can even place it inside the central area of Tibet, still it will reach India, moreover they r actually risking placing in their if aimed at India,as it is in India's immediate strike range, the same goes for agni-2,agni-2 even dont have the range to strike chinese industrial areas inside eastern China even if deployed at the boundary line, and simply no nation is going to waste a ballistic missile for attacking minor targets like airstrips, railway lines and roads, they have different platforms for that, all this r just show off's from both Indian and Chinese sides
