I think it has to do with the fact that the earth is not a flat surface, but a spheroid. That would explain the range being oval shaped rather than circular. The small bump at the top right hand corner is possibly dependent on the location of the earth from which it is fired, and the curvature there. But I'm not sure about that part.

ITs not the exact shape. Thay perimeter range is calculated according to the border of the Indian international boundary.

They consider the range few 100 kms from inside the border at every point.

What ever the range shape is give is corresponding to the Indian border lines.

The wheeler Island was highlighted only to show the point of launch during the test flight, but not for war time launch point.

Because india's northeast juts out that way. It is hypothetically 5000 km from any point within india.
