Agni IV, Agni-III launch next week

Close on the heels of the successful launch of Agni-V, Agni-II, Agni-I and Prithvi-II missiles from April this year, the Defence Research and Development Organisation is making preparations on the Wheeler Island, off the Odisha coast, for two more Agni variants’ launches.
While Agni-IV will lift off from a rail-mobile launch pad on September 18, Agni-III missile will blast off on September 21, said V.K. Saraswat, Scientific Advisor to the Defence Minister.

The maiden launch of Nirbhay, a sub-sonic cruise missile, will take place in October or November.
Both Agni-IV and Agni-III are two-stage missiles that can carry nuclear warheads weighing one tonne each. In the missions on September 18 and 21, Agni-IV and Agni-III will be armed only with conventional explosives. Both missiles are 17 metres long. While Agni-IV can devastate areas situated 4,000 km away, Agni-III’s range is over 3,000 km.

While the DRDO will flight-test Agni-IV, the Strategic Forces Command of the Army, which is entrusted with firing strategic missiles, will fire Agni-III. This is Agni-IV’s third flight. Agni-III will be flying for the fourth time. The maiden flights of both missiles ended in failure.
The Aeronautical Development Establishment, a DRDO facility in Bangalore, has developed Nirbhay, a subsonic cruise missile. Nirbhay means “Fearless” and the missile is a derivative of Lakshya, a pilotless target aircraft. DRDO sources said Nirbhay’s range was “in the region of 1,000 km.” “It is a tree-top missile, that is, it can fly at the height of a palmyra tree.”

Agni-IV, Agni-III launch next week

Since the A-3 missile will be test fired by SFC we can assume that the missile is close to be in service,I think A-3 is already under production.A-4 will take some more test before being operational

A3 can easily reach 5k range with a minimum payload. I'm not so sure about A4,,,the A5 can go up
8,000km but I'm not sure if it can come upto 10k...that will be done by Agni-VI by 2014.

Misreportation. A4 didn't fail, only A3 failed the first test, after that two more tests were conducted and
the missile turned out successful, this is gonna be the 4th test of A3, and 2nd test of A4.

8,000km but I'm not sure if it can come upto 10k...that will be done by Agni-VI by 2014.

and if they say Agni VI is 10000 KMs, then it is sure proof that Agni V is 10000 KMs range (normal range).

Similarly when they say A3 has 5000 with minimum payload, consider A3 to have 5000 with normal payload!!!

Officially a missile is considered in service , when One regiment is complete , which in Indian Context means 60-67 Missiles need to be inducted before The missile is declared in service
Agni 3 Production began in late 2010 , so its quite likely that 16-20 of these missiles are already in service

maybe for missiles like prithvi but won't be so in case of sophiticated ones like A5 and A4s
