Bengaluru: Just 48-hours after a Tanzanian student was beaten and stripped by a mob in Bengaluru, a similiar incident has been reported on Friday from Hyderabad.
A group of Nigerian nationals today filed a complaint at Hyderabad police station alleging that they were attacked by another group of local youths over a roadside brawl in Tolichowki.

The police have registered a case against unknown persons.

According to the police, the Nigerians claimed that they were beaten and assaulted by a group of people over in Kakimpet area in Tolichowki. The complaint alleged that attackers were carrying knives and had pistols.

The incident happened on Thursday at 8:30 pm when a group of Nigerians nationals were returning after visiting a mosque when some local youths passed racist comments on them and began to quarrel. The local youths were soon joined by scores of people, after which the argument took the ugly turn.

Police have registered a case under IPC sections 323 and 341 and are investigating the matter.

Disgraceful! Peaceful Nigerians attacked by racist mob in India

– Nigerian students beaten by angry mob of locals in Indian city of Hyderabad.

– Attack comes after Tanzanian student was nearly lynched in the country.

– The local police force has promised to punish those responsible.

Forty-eight hours after a Tanzanian student was beaten and stripped by a group of locals, a group of Nigerians living in Hyderabad, southern India, said that locals subjected them to a deliberate and possibly racist attack on Thursday night.

The local police force is now investigating a case against unknown persons on charges of wrongful restraint and quarrel.

The mob of local Indians who attacked the Nigerians included people who were carrying pistols and military knifes.

Angry Nigerians living in India

Alleging they did not receive enough support from police, over 20 Nigerian students then stormed the local police station by to complain of the attack afterwards.

They dispersed only at 2.30 a.m. after they were assured that justice would be granted.

Police Inspector Murali Krishna refused to say if the incident was caused by racism, only stating: “It was an accidental brawl. We have registered a case under sections 323 and 341 of Indian Penal Code. We are investigating.”

Omobowle Seun Gideon, a first year MBA student at Osmania University and president of the Association of Nigerian Students in the city, said: “One of our guys was passing by on his bike.

“As he was giving way to another motorist coming opposite to him, a local man on the road abused him repeatedly, to which, he too shot back verbally. The incident turned into an argument.”

According to him, two more Nigerians joined the man whereas scores of locals joined the other side.

“How can anyone take out a gun and a military knife in public?” Gideon said.

“Finally, when police arrived they see three of us holding a local man,” he added.

Gideon, in a bombshell revelation, then said he handed in CCTV evidence to the police to verify the accusations, and they are not verifying the footage.


There are around 40,000 Nigerians living and studying in India.

Most of them live an honest life however Nigerians continue to have a poor public image in the country.

Our countrymen are associated with organised crime, scams and fraud, leading some locals to form racist sentiments.

I've met many Indians over the course of my stay in Middle East.
Hyderabadis, Bengalis and Gujaratis are undoubtedly extremely racist.

Racism and fear/suspicion of the "other" is prevalent worldwide. Indians and India are no different.

It is however true that some Nigerians spoil their image for the rest of them (who are good/ok overall)....and there are definitely enough racist/angry Indians to not take matters on the chin (as they perceive it).

Those Indians that indulge in purely racially based violence, or violence of any kind (unless its self defence) should not be let off the hook....especially if they start it or misdirect it towards a whole group and not directly responsible individuals.

Nigerians are our guests, and guests should always be treated with respect and given benefit of the doubt......till it is proven otherwise in specific instances. That is a big problem that stems from inefficiency of the police that such criminal activities can be undertaken by foreigners en masse.

The situation came this far because some Sudanese students mowed down a Muslim girl named shabnam, the area is predominantly Muslim dominated and the girl died, the public was angry, the next day when some Tanzanians came to the place the public mistook them to be Sudanese and attacked them thinking that they were Sudanese, how does the common public distinguish between nationalities who look the same, and those who say what happened to them was bad and so on I dare them to go to their locality mainly eejipura in Bangalore they will slit your throats, and they openly trade drugs but as they are said to be students they are protected by their councillates, when ever they face a problem they cry racism, there are so many people from foreign countries living why don't they face public wrath, last year an Iranian women who was drunk when stopped drunken driving assaulted the policeman with the bottle and hit it on his head when she was arrested she cried discrimination, at last when the authorities said that she will be deported and infirmed to Iranian authorities about her deed all her hang over was cleared and aasked not to report it to the embassy, if she was reported she may face fifty lashes as punishment. Indian police are soft compared to other police of the world and people say they are harsh, who ever says they are harsh should be sent to European countries to see what their policemen do.

Why are you worried when you are not in our country, do pinoys have money to even travel, and there are more refugees in indian than the population of phillipines and nearly a million foreigners including 1 lakh Pakistanis, and in my city nearly fifty Pakistanis are getting treatment for illness when they are not facing discrimination you have no idea of India.

Brother in my locality in Delhi ppl are not renting their houses to African for their suspicious activities from drug to prostitutions.....

These people in India complain about police brutallity should have participated in occupy wall street protests I have seen police women holding protesting women forcing their eyes open and another police women spraying pepper spray in to her eyes, first they hand cuff then push them to ground, or order them to kneel, and after the arrest they strip the arrested in the lockup and do cavity checkup and they videograph it, they are made to wear a ankle tag with a chip and left off, you are not more than a tagged animal. What would you think the protesters do if indian police did this?

They will run to America. Since both police will do cavity test, they will atleast be satisfied with comparatively better salary package.
