After Sahara & Birla bribe accusations, Shameless PM Modi is top trending as #looteraModi

Drag him to court again like you dragged in Gujarat riots but if you fail then commit suicide

are you a tubelight , when did you realize this fact? It has been same even before modi.
congress has ruled the country for 50 years and expecting modi to change India in 2 years speaks volumes about your thinking capacity.

Its good you are in canada and not India. how is that you are affected about what happens in India?

Indirect taxes will form a big chunk of revenue simply bcos we cannot tax non-salaried ppl efficiently. As such ppl who spend more will be taxed more which is fair. For eg you buy a big car, big tv or do air travel you will pay more indirect tax.

As far as health care, social security ....etc is luxury in a poor country like India. Even ppl in rich countries like US struggle with that.

Don't you think the taxes are high?? In rich countries countries where the tax compliance is high, they do receive these services for free of cost or subsidized rate. They don't feel it a burden to pay taxes because they do receive those benefits. In India tax compliance is low because people don't trust the government with their money and the taxes are very high for the benefits they receive. Instead the govt. should reduce the taxes and make more people into tax net.
Tax officials let you go if you bribe them. These corrupt officials should be put in jail.

You are right. Tax rates before '91 was as high as 97%, after the tax rates came down post liberalisation, Govt revenues zoomed up instead of going down as people stopped hiding their income in fear of paying high taxes.
What the govt can do is abolish direct taxes altogether, and impose only indirect tax (maybe increase the rates also to compensate). So, everyone will be taxed only on the amount of money they spend and not the income they earn. It will encourage people to save more and invest which is very much required for a country like India. It will also reduce black money as indirect taxes are easier to collect and track for evasions than direct taxes.

Indian taxrates are avg not high. Tax compliance is high in other countries bcos their enforcement is good. In US you cannot break traffic laws , evading taxes is very tough. Who evades taxes not the guy who makes 10lk but one makes more money and who already has comfortable life. These ppl will never use govt services , vijay mallya for instance.

I am expecting tax reform for 2017 budget and you will see slew of reforms and lower taxes across the board. Also it should be made mandatory for everyone to file taxes and get a pan card. It will bring every income earning citizen in the tax net and sooner than later they will realise the importance of contributing to the nation building effort.

I differ with you about enforcement in rich countries. I have heard of many cases of tax fraud and many more cases of welfare and health care fraud. Generally people do file tax returns because their tax is withheld and they are due some tax refund. This applies to all the lower end to higher end working class. Business people do avoid taxes by showing losses and overheads. So you will find black and grey economy in the rich countries too but general public do find it their obligations to file taxes.

When I calculated all the taxes I pay, it is coming to 75%.

What kind of services do I get for paying the maximum tax rate??

Answer: No health care, No social security after retirement, no unemployment benefits, no welfare, no free education and no thank you from the government.

On top of that I have to grease the officials to get basic services. :(

income tax 30%
Property tax 15%
Service tax 15%
VAT and Sales tax 15%

I did not mention other taxes and fees that they levy for registration, licenses etc.
The usual problems developing countries face. The problem is not with so much tax but also how inefficiently these are utilized because of corruption. In my opinion corruption index is directly linked with the overall IQ of a society. In simple words, unlike other countries, instead of 'looting' other countries through trade and distributing among their people, here people simply loot each other to get rich. Take the case of Mallya, after taking crores of loans from banks, imported planes, cars and stuff, ran business at loss and went bankrupt.

With a huge chunk of population living in poverty and out of economic cycle, coupled with inefficiency in governance and overpopulation, there will always be burden of tax on middle class without much benefits from the government. The blame will obviously go to leaders of the early days of independence for being short sighted. Governments in early days were seemingly not interested in rapid development or didn't do much to control population growth.

Congressis are born retards, I don't blame them.

But Pakistanis! What's your problem with Modi?

.
This what they are doing for last 15 years since Modi came to power. They accused modi of 1.60 lkh crore corruption when he was CM. Modi appointed a commission under supreme court judge to probe the charges. Commission gave advertise in news paper to submit any documents related to any irregularities of so called 16 scam. Nobody came. commission sent notice to congress leaders to come and submit proofs of irregularity. Nobody came. Second notice was sent. They asked for time but did not come to give the proof. And finally shah commission submitted the clean report.

In this case, they went to court. Court humiliated Prashant Bhushan and throw away the case. So now they are trying to tarnish the image of Indian PM by their paid stooge like @ashoka321 who is a flse flagger with multiple ID and as liar as his Master Kejariwal.

For people trolling Modi, I dare to put here about INC's "actual role" from Vijay Malya to Birla Scam.:D

indirect tax is anti poor. Indian tax rate is not high, its in line with other competitive western economies(i am not talking about nordic countries with high tax rate).
The number of people in tax bracket is low, that needs to improve.

it is only 3% of the population ( about 36 million) who actually paid any taxes. In advanced countries it is about 50 to 60% of the population. In India agriculture is exempt from taxes and rural population constitute 2/3rd of the population. So, a huge section of the population who mostly subsist on crop income is exempt. Also a huge portion of the economy is in informal sector who are mostly labor class who contribute very little to the income pool. It is very difficult to collect taxes from the unorganised sector who mostly fall under low income. So, the challenge is to find individuals in high income bracket who fall under tax bracket but evade taxes. I am sure they number in millions and even if a small percentage is tapped then it will vastly improve the tax collection.

Indirect tax is not anti poor. In fact it is a great equaliser. The govt does not levy indirect tax on essential items like food products. The concept of Indirect tax is, if you are able to purchase certain products , that means you are undertaxed and need to be taxed more. Indirect tax is the best way to tax rich farmers who don't have to pay income tax.

Exactly , you use more you pay more. Thats the reason why petrol is taxed a lot but not diesel. due to lack of enforcement in collecting taxes indirect tax comes in as handy but ofcourse it does has its side effects as well.

That my dear is very tough, for eg rich farmers, doctors, lawyers, traders ..etc end up using cash and get away with it. Cash less system will help pinpoint the source of cash. Infact things there are more advanced things blockchaining in finance which will ensure that the spender uses legal money. Govt of India should void all transactions more than 500Rs or 1000Rs done in cash but it has its practical difficulties. The fact is I can buy goods without paying sales tax by not getting a bill speaks volumes about our system.

Indirect tax is unfair because it taxes rich and poor equally... under current taxation system the rich pay higher rate of tax than poor(not simply high tax), if you remove that and replace with indirect tax, the poor will ultimately pay a higher price.
The problem of rich farmers not being taxed is our own making, we can find a way to tax them instead putting poor people at disadvantage. If huge percentage of our people are poor, they should not be taxed. My point was to increase the tax net to people who should pay but not paying under current system(like rich farmers), not taxing everybody for sake of it.
Which certain products are we talking about? if you mean luxury tax and sin tax, well they are already there. The moment you add further tax to 'luxury' goods, the aspirational middle class will be up in arms(politically difficult to do), I doubt you can tax it enough to account for shortfall due to lack of direct tax from rich people.

That's where the problem lie according to me. Why should one be taxed at a higher rate (punished I might call), for earning more.Tax rates should be such that people are encouraged to earn more. On the other hand they should be discouraged to spend unnecessarily and invest more, this is why Indirect taxes play a pivot role. Indirect taxes represent 66% of Centers Tax revenue and almost 100% of that of states. By tweaking tax rates, the govt can do away with direct tax completely. Right now most of the tax litigations are related to direct tax.
