After Pakistan, Nepal also cries foul over new Indian map

KATHMANDU: Nepal has objected to a new map released by India that places the disputed area of Kalapani within Delhi’s borders, saying it was “clear” the territory belonged to Kathmandu.

On Saturday, India released the new map following its decision to split occupied Kashmir into two administrative territories.

On the map, India’s border cuts into Kalapani, long a source of contention between the two countries, particularly because Indian troops have been deployed in the area for more than 50 years.

Nepal “is committed to protecting its international border,” the foreign ministry said in a statement on Wednesday.

“Any border-related issue relating to the two friendly countries needs to be resolved through diplomatic channels on the basis of historical documents and evidence.”

The Nepal government will not accept any unilateral decision,” it added.

An 1816 treaty established Nepal’s western boundary with India along the Kali River, but border disputes have arisen over a discrepancy between the two sides over where the source of the river is located.

Rajan Bhattarai, the foreign relations advisor to Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, said a solution would be sought through talks.

“We have to verify the authenticity of the map and examine the borderline from our concerned authorities and experts.

Then we will start talks using our diplomatic channels,
” Bhattarai said.

Meanwhile, Pakistan had also rejected the political map displaying IOK within the territorial jurisdiction of India as “incorrect, legally untenable, void and in complete violation of the relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions”.

Nepal always acted as Indians chamcha and now they crying foul. lol

Its good that Indian neighbors are waking up from the Indian deception. India has territorial disputes with its neighbors as India is behaving as a 2nd hand imperialist. Pushing its neighbors around and trying to reconstruct the former British empire territories as the new Indian empire.

Nepal always acted as Indians chamcha and now they crying foul. lol

They had no choice. They relied completely on India for access to the rest of the world. Its only with the economic rise in Chinas power and grand infrastructure projects in Tibet that alternate outlets are now emerging for Nepal (https://www.japantimes.co.jp/news/2...n-india-nepal-awaits-china-rail/#.XcQ9t2TTUzQ). To their credit the Nepalese started speaking up against Indian bullying as soon as they got this chance. The same cannot be said for Hasina for example who pretty much accepts anything New Delhi demands of her country despite her country's lack of dependence on India.

Lol.
Nepal is saying the exact same thing about Kalapani for 40+ years now.

Example; statements by Nepal PMs in 1997/98 (22 years back) saying the same thing on Kalapani:

Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba told in parliament on 6th March, 1997 that Indian army would go back from
Kalapani after demarcation of that area. The then Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala had claimed that Kalapani was
within the territory of Nepal as depicted on the maps of 1850 and 1856, published by survey of India. He also said "we feed
that the disputed area of Kalapani" is ours; the dispute needs to be resolved by carrying out a comprehensive study of all the
historical documents and proofs. If the study and facts show
that the territory belongs to Nepal, then India must pull out of
Kalapani (9th June 1998).
