NEW DELHI — Indian security forces in Kashmir engaged in an intense, 12-hour-long gun battle with militants that ended late Sunday morning, leaving four militants, two soldiers and one civilian dead, the authorities said. An additional civilian died after a protest.

The police had learned that the militants were in a village, and cordoned it off late Saturday. They were conducting searches when they were fired upon by militants; security forces began firing back.
The violence then led to clashes between Indian security forces and large crowds of local youths who gathered to mourn the dead militants.

The police used tear gas on protesters, who were pelting stones at the Indian forces. They also fired bullets and birdshot at protesters, injuring at least 21 people, one of whom later died, according to Dr. Abdul Majid, the medical superintendent of the district government hospital at Anantnag.

The four militants, all residents of Kashmir and all in their 20s, were members of the rebel group Hizbul Mujahedeen, said Sridhar Patil, the police chief of Kulgam district. He said they had criminal charges, including murder and stealing arms from security forces, outstanding against them.

“First we tried to convince them to surrender with the help of locals and family members,” Mr. Patil said, but they shouted back that they would not surrender.

Security forces recovered three assault rifles and two pistols from the site, Mr. Patil said.

Throngs of youths fought with Indian forces last summer in Kulgam. The disturbances began in July, when Indian security forces killed Burhan Wani, a top commander for Hizbul Mujahedeen. Sunday’s fight in Kulgam ended a lull of several months.

Insurgents in Kashmir have been fighting for independence from India for nearly three decades, and the Indian authorities have long said that their movement is supported by Pakistan. Diplomatic ties between the two countries have frayed in recent years.

. . . . . . . . .
They are kashmiris, which by default make them Pakistanis. Anti national what?
PA has wiped 130 souls recently without even verifying who they were, and what was their crime. How many were balochs, afghans, innocents boys, men, there is no records just mad killing to prove that PA can take badla?

.
Anyone regardless if he is Kashmiri, Bihari or Sindhi (does not matter) sympathise\aid or abetted terrorists to carry out attacks, deserve to be eliminated.
anyone fighting for freedom with popuar support of majority people of that region should be supported by all means.

They were not freedom fighters but butchers of civilians who kill everyone not believing in their ideology. Can't compare it with freedom fighters of kashmir who just want independence and fights occupying forces only.

They should have been eliminated

none of them was baloch. Few were afghans with weapons. Considering in mind the fact that all suicide bombers of recent attacks were afghans it is not any surprise. None of them was targetted for purpose of killing. Intelligence based operations in which the people who fought were killed in action not some extra judicial killings were done or civilians were killed.
None of the family members of those killed denied the charges. Infact they accepted it. Unlike the innocent kashmiris who were killed, sparking outrage among local community.

dude you can wank on anything ,we have no problems .please stay out of our internal issues.
Your internal issue is also our internal issue which makes it a dispute internationalize and accepted by Indian prime minister Jawahal lal nehru. Go kill him like Gandhi. He may be alive again. Maybe he is Narinder modi in new janam. rather than killing innocent kashmiris.

APHC strongly condemns continued house arrest of Gilani

The All Parties Hurriyet Conference has strongly denounced the continued house arrest of its Chairman Syed Ali Gilani.

In a statement in Srinagar on Saturday, the APHC termed the autocratic and egoistic attitude of the puppet rulers as condemnable.

It said Syed Ali Gilani is not being allowed to offer Friday prayers for the last so many years.
The statement said that the PDP-BJP regime has turned occupied Kashmir virtually into a big jail as more than six hundred Hurriyet leaders and activists are languishing in different jails.
Meanwhile, two Indian policemen were injured when some unknown persons lobbed a grenade on a police party in Nowgam area in Srinagar.
On the other hand, a Kashmiri youth, Muhammad Rafiq Shah was acquitted by a Delhi court after over 11 years of illegal detention in a case of Delhi bomb blasts.

He was acquitted after producing official records of Kashmir University as he was present in his classroom on the day of explosions.

Logic is out the door! :o:
Having what said was does that make Kashmiri pundits? not Kashmiri?

Ps: Do you realise before the existence of the kingdom of Animalia, we were the products of single cell organisms that crash landed on earth onboard a Metroid\comet.

All made of stardust you & me, and yet here we are stuck between these barricades we imposed on ourselves.

So perhaps we can focus on the delusions of the brain that one manifests when they are paranoid over infectious greed, money and muscle power & learn to be a bit more human.

Tru story!
