After FATF grey-listing, Pakistan faces EU black-listing threat

The Financial Action Taken Force’s (FATF) decision to put Pakistan on its grey list will not only make it difficult for Islamabad to attract foreign investments, but may also invite punitive action by the European Union as the bloc might put the country on its own blacklist.

Pakistan, following the FATF decision last month, entered into a phase where it has to not only submit an action plan against controlling terror fund at the body’s next plenary in Paris end-June but also give a political undertaking that it would implement the steps, officials here told ET.

If Islamabad fails to comply with the rules of the grey list and an action plan is not adopted, then the country runs the risk of being included on to the blacklist of the FATF that currently features Iran and North Korea.

At the same time, South Asia’s second biggest country runs the risk also of being put on blacklist by the EU. Such a decision by its top trading partner could severely hit that country’s industry, especially the lucrative textile sector, as well as banking channels with Europe, India’s foreign ministry officials familiar with the subject said. The motion to put Pak on the grey list was jointly moved by the US and three key powers of Europe: the UK, France and Germany.

Pakistan had earlier been pulled up by members of EU Parliament for its failure to control terrorism emanating from its soil. The issue of crossborder terror will figure prominently when French President meets the Indian PM here on March 10.

The EU is Pakistan’s most important trading partner, European Commission figures show. This puts the EU in a strong negotiating position. According to Indian officials, FATF’s decision to put Pakistan on the grey list came after much deliberations. The February 18-23 plenary in Paris witnessed hectic negotiations from day one till the final day as India, supported by its partners, put forward strong arguments against Pakistan’s lacklustre efforts to control financing of terror groups.

This is known as the power diplomacy .
Kudos to MEA

The thing is that nobody even cares about Pakistan anymore and that is worrying.politicians are busy in internal politics and currently nobody is truly representing pakistan.fighting american led war is causing all kind of destruction.before starting war with any country,America first make it weak both economically and militarily.this is just economic confrontation.EU are a bunch of slaves who can follow America by any means.pakistan will surely end up in all kinds of lists and this shows that there is no friend of pakistan.china recently showed to Pakistan that it can't help Pakistan anymore.china can only look for more political dominance like they left Pakistan alone in fatf just because of that vice president seat.it is better for Pakistan to stop guarding Chinese inside pakistan.they must protect cpec not us.this isn't about terrorism this is about isolation.pakistan is isolating itself and America don't like cpec.punishment comes by making excuses of terrorism.why are we punished? Those who hate cpec including India must also punish China but they know China have friends.that is why Pakistan becomes a soft target.Look at China, doing cpec and doing nothing for the security of Pakistan and we raised entire squad just to protect chinese.pak army must come out of this american centric policy.we are very near when America makes us Iran and North Korea and they will surely start a war.unfortunately all politicians are sleeping and pak army still thinks that America are with them.this might happened when Osama died in Pakistan but America didn't punish pakistan.that shows that they too believed that terrorism is not emanating from Pakistan but now they suddenly realize that Pakistan is their enemy and they make terrorism a problem just like indians.basically Americans followed indian policy and with slaves like France, germany, they can put Pakistan in every list.i don't know why Pakistan is so silent and why there is no response.it is shameful.

Pakistan has failed to care for itself, what do you expect others to do?
A phony war on terror....loose politicians, leaking banking sector, manipulated stock markets..

In western countries corruption and financial leakages are accidental or exploitative in nature. That means people taking advantage of weak control or loop holes in the system.

In Pakistan, corruption is organised. The system is designed with intention to be corrupt and easily manipulated.

after getting + status and sourche is Indian media lmao

Pakistan should state this clearly to westerner, more of this bullshit and border to Afghanistan is closing forever.

No doubt that this is a concerted effort by Western nations to blackmail Pakistan into submission.

The only trouble with Western tactics is that we have been here and done it already. That too all alone. Only this time we have the backing of strong regional allies. We cannot be bullied.

Nothing will be achieved by applying blackmail tactics against Pakistan. Pakistan won't compromise on its legitimate security concerns. Pakistan won't do more because it has already done enough. Pakistan won't give up its nuclear weapons. Pakistan won't stop its cooperation with China. Pakistan won't accept India as the police officer of this region. No matter how many billboards are placed all over Western capitals. No matter how many times they put Pakistan on their blackmail lists. They better get used to the reality.

LOL! Empty threats nothing serious. For all Pakistanis, a question, when a dog barks at you what do you do? You simply ignore and walk away. Same you got to do about these black&white grey lists. These dogs will bark and then will keep quite. Let them exercise.

CPEC effects. We are ready for their every dirty trick what they are playing since very long but they can't stop Pakistan this time too. Our history shows that under pressure we completed all our assignment like missiles, nuclear bomb and others. WE WILL COMPLETE CPEC NO MATTER WHAT

.
i think it is a blessing in disguise .... 1st. Pakistan itself needs to develop its industries internally
2. Pakistan should have developed look east policy
3. Pakistan must penetrate in Russian and Central Asian markets
4. Pakistan should also develop business strategy for African countries too

We must come out of western delima or western colonial mindset and we should work on regional integration with Iran, China and Central Asia ... india cant be trusted and we shouldnt trust india at all ...

.
If west sanctions, i'd like to know where Pakistan wants to export their produce. Fake bravado wih no understanding of consequences is what got Pakistan where it is today.

The only problem of Pakistan is her political leaders. Impeach them and things will calm down overnight.

This solution is like imposing a curfew to prevent a law & order situation.

A nation without leaders is like a rudderless ship.
