After Challenges, China Appears to Backpedal on Air Zone

Symbolism counts here - both the moves by China and the US was symbolic here and will cause its own repercussions probably in the longer run, what it will do for the present time being is bolster the confidence of the other states around the East China sea, no one can predict what's in store in the future.

Yes, short term the US scored points here with their B-52 and we didn't do anything.

But this is a long drawn out Cold War.

China is not getting any weaker and as our power increases, we will have more chips to play with.

People get emotional over these things. But in the big picture, nothing has really changed.

People act as if the US has defeated China and that China is finished

Give it a couple of weeks and these emotions will die down as it has with every other incident.

Chinese military is rising, unless the US can stop that, they haven't done anything to change the current trends.

All they scored is a psychological victory over China.

Excuse me? Most neighbors around China are bullied by China? Who from below:
Russia, NK, Mongolia, KZ, Kyrghyzstan, Tajikistan, Pakistan, Afghan, India, Bhutan, Nepal, Bruma, Laos, Viet, Japan, SK, Phillipine, Malaysia?

A majority in the south / south east. Besides pakistan, burma and NK are very dependent on China, so no need to bully. They just hand over land / islans etc that china wants when they want.

You hold China responsibility for bully? Who are you? Some high rank Indian officer?

Its called expressing an opinion as an individual. A new concept to some, obviously.

.
Some people (especially Indians that's bruised from the April incident this year) has taken glee that China didn't respond.

But what if next week the US sends it's bombers and Chinese fighters escort it? What then?

China could gradually step up its escort of foreign aircraft instead of doing it in day 1.

Just because we didn't escort it immediately doesn't mean it won't happen in the future. As our capabilities rise, we will have more options in our foreign policy.

Some people seem to think just because the US sent its bombers into this ADIZ zone that somehow it will stop China and be scared off

Got news for you, this incident won't stop China's military build up whatsoever, in fact it might even act as a catalyst to speed things up and increase military spending and speed up development.

People forget the 1996 aircraft carrier incidents were the catalyst for the current military build up. If that incident didn't happen I doubt China would be have the military build up we are having right now.

This could be a blessing in disguise for China when thinking about the long term and not just the short term emotions.

Yeah well come back after PLAAF has had the guts to chase away the B-52s.

.
So Chinese are taking a leaf out of USSR book.... and they want this to be a long drawn Cold War Part 2 ..... it would be interesting to see the turn of events in next 10 -15 years.

. .
On Wednesday, after the Pentagon sent two B-52 bombers defiantly cruising around China’s new air defense zone for more than two hours, Beijing appeared to backpedal. The overflights went unchallenged, and some civilian airlines ignored China’s new assertion of air rights.

LOL http://www.*************.com/smilies/happy/happy0007.gif

So the USAF bombers were cruising about in the so called Chinese ADIZ for good two hours, and then we had some Chinese fellas yesterday tell us that PLAAF didn't have enough time to respond:o:

I guess PLAAF's response time is more than 2 hours. This is getting more and more embarrassing for the Chinese.

That's nice to know, a long drawn out cold war with the US - best of luck with that.

Don't celebrate too quick, it could be next week.

China probably learnt many things from this incident, we might be more prepared next time.

. .
Yeah and by then why don't you pawn 440000kms2 area of China to Japan.:rofl:

Ask you J-15s to hunt down the B-52s.
LOL ur AF couldn't reply for 2 hours, damn PLAAF is either scared or has really bad response time. Enjoy fear.

Fear of what?

Those B-52 will get shot down by our HQ-9 SAMs.

Fear the US?
You mean like in the Korean War?

Well unlike you I am not running with my tail underneath my A$$.

Get a better translator.

You mean like how the US ran with their tail underneath their a$$ in the Korean War?
