Afridi banned for two T20s for ball-tampering

Afridi should be banned for life. He must realize that Pakistan's honour and dignity are linked with his actions. He can not be allowed to do such stupid things.

On the other hand it might be a cheap trick by him to run away from T20 match.

I'm surprised people are giving afridi certificates for patriotism!!!

How nationalism can become an end in itself is amazing.

^^^^
Just as Pakistani authorities start a rant of Indian terrorism as soon as they are blamed for either sponsoring / supporting / turning a blind eye to etc towards terrorism directed at India.Best part is both have nothing to justify the claim...

I know its offtopic, but hardly a topic with much to discuss about. Afridi is as guilty as a puppy sitting on a pile of poo.

I have doubts if his apologies are really serious if he keeps coming for justification that every nation does it. If he is accepting that he's guilty - why point fingers at others with obviously no proof.

afridi is saying every nation is doing ball tempering

thats true almost all test nations has done the ball tempering in past but why did he do that? there will be millions of terrorists in the world so u also become terrorist?

i think imran nazir and imran farhat will open and it is important foe pakistan to keep the momentum going in T 20 matches

Caught out!

It was a moment of sporting suicide; a member of our international cricket team seen around the world chewing at the ball in the hope of affecting its flight and gaining some advantage. There was no doubt about it, no opportunity to say 'oh… it was an accident' or 'no… it wasn't me.' It was cheating, plain and simple, and earned Shahid Afridi a two-match ban – not his first as he picked up a ban for scuffing the pitch in 2005.

Afridi's punishment now leaves the managers – mis-managers actually – of Pakistan cricket with something of a quandary. The Twenty20 tour will end in Melbourne on February 5, but without Afridi who is the Twenty20 skipper and had been the stand-in captain in the fifth ODI. Yousuf is not a part of the Twenty20 squad and Younis Khan has retired from the format. Who will lead this lacklustre side that has been comprehensively thrashed by an Australian side and that many commentators and cricketing pundits regard as their weakest for a generation? Who knows, because there does not appear to be a single player with the qualities that would earn him a captaincy, and finding a new captain is going to be no easier because the chief selector of our national cricket team fell on his sword and resigned on Sunday, saying that he was disappointed with the team's performance.

A year ago there was national jubilation as our team had won the world Twenty20 series, but it has been downhill all the way from there. Cricket is a part of our national identity. In our country, there is hardly a boy who does not aspire to become a part of our national side at some point or the other. We follow it with an avidity that borders on obsession and it is a barometer of our national morale – which is close to rock-bottom today. There is no 'quick fix' for cricket anymore than there is for the railways or any other struggling institution for that matter. Growing good players takes years and successfully managing them is an art born of maturity rather than cronyism and political preferment. Perhaps the best we can hope for is that this is indeed the bottom of the curve and the only way is up. But wherever cricket in Pakistan goes from here it needs a long hard objective examination before it sets foot on a pitch again.

had we won this match it was a ban of 5 matches + a long controversy

Umpires were lucky to change the ball immediately and banning him for 2 T20s + our loss didn't ignite the controversy

I am not not that much concerned about Afridi biting the ball

What I am concerend about is when in test series , we had grip on game , on key moments our players were given out soft outs LBW ....

And I have noticed that not once but one neumerous ocassions -

When ever the Australian team is in trouble the other team's start batsmen are given a cheap out soft edge that is not edge gets called or the LBW that is not LBW is called -

To me that is "MORE serious issue"

Autsralian team would have lost their Test at HOME ... honor long time ago if it was not for these bias umpiring every time anyteam is close to beating them....

Unbelievable and shameful. That is probably the height of shamelessness and arrogance on Afridi's behalf.
