The availability of advanced healthcare services at reasonable rates has made India a sought after medical hub for residents of several countries, including Afghans.

Due to poor medical facilities in war-ravaged Afghanistan, several patients prefer to come to India for treatment.

Delhi's Apollo Hospital is one such facility where many Afghan patients come for treatment of ailments like joint replacement, spine surgery, and complicated neglected trauma, chest and gastrointestinal specialties.

According to estimates, the number of Afghans seeking treatment rose by 21 percent in 2014 to more than 32,000 patients. This figure is expected to climb further after Prime Minister Narendra Modi relaxed visa rules in a bid to deepen ties.

Abdul Aziz, a 56-year old from Kabul, said he has come to India for spine treatment.

"The medical facilities in Afghanistan are very poor and the doctors are not proficient enough to diagnose the ailment of patients. So, I have to come to India for a better treatment," said Aziz.

Noorjan, who hails from Baglan Province, has come to India for treatment of a chest ailment. He praised Indian doctors for their advanced treatment and range of medicines.

"I have come here for the chest treatment and I hope coming to India will cure my ailments and the medicines which have prescribed to me will definitely work well," said Noorjan.

Dr. Yash Gulati, a senior consultant in the joint and spine department of Apollo Hospital, confirmed that several patients from Afghanistan come to him for treatment.

"As far is Afghanistan is concerned, we have a constant flow of patients coming from there. I can't put numbers to this. At least in my OPD, I see around five to six patients from Afghanistan every day. So if you add patients of my colleagues, then it's a sizeable number of patients coming from Afghanistan," said Dr. Gulati.

Located in the Sarita Vihar area of the national capital, the multi-specialty Apollo Hospital treats around 600 Afghan patients annually.

India has been contributing to the rebuilding efforts of the war-torn nation in a big way, and one way of doing it, is by providing medical care to Afghan patients.

Why they don't take weapon to India with them like they do in Pakistan.

Since few days reading all these threads about Afghans makes me more stern on my view that they have to be kicked out of Pakistan ASAP, or else another disaster is waiting to happen.

it's not like these modern treatment systems are provided to people for free... so what's the fuss??

India won't sell weapons to Afghanistan as these weapons could end up with terrorist talibans and then get its way into the hands of Let terrorists . That's the reason . But I think we should rethink about this strategy . May be in future like US weapons rules India might get assurance from Afghanistan on use of our weapons and protection of the same

Our arjun tanks can be bea huge boost for dessert conditions against talibans or even Pakistan ...

I keep saying this all the time. Whole of South Asia including Afghanistan is under Indian rule. Only Pakistan is there to oppose it. Everywhere from Mayanmar, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh etc are under India. We must be very alert. None of these nations can be trusted anymore,

Why do you need to oppose ? There is no need. Anyway we are not controlling anybody.

I have heard Afghans say that for them there is Khuda (pointing up) and then there is the Indian doctor (pointing a little lower).

India is placed among the top three medical tourism destinations in Asia after Thailand and Singapore, mainly due to the low cost of treatment, quality healthcare infrastructure and availability of highly-skilled doctors.

India is known mostly for its cost-effective medical treatments along with high standards in cardiology, orthopaedics, nephrology, oncology and neuro surgery.

Dude even Pakistanis come to India for treatment .
Don't politicise humanitarian things.

@jamahir
Of course at a cost. Why do think everything will be done free ?

You walk into any big hospital in Delhi be it Escorts, Apollo or Fortis and u see 100s of Afghans, Bangladeshis, Pakistanis and African patients and their families getting top notch treatment and it gives a proud feeling being an Indian that we are able to help them in 'real' terms....the fact that each visiting patient and his attendant acknowledges and admires.

Let's see where you admit your dying mother when the time comes. Turns out any hospital in Philippines
is run entirely by Indian doctors & is probably affiliated with our institutes.

You guys so live inside a hole, don't you? Haha i knew it.
