Afghanistan's female TV presenters must cover their faces, say Taliban

I believe i beat the credit for the scoop , by exactly one minute.

As for topic .

How can you tell a person , they can not show their face in public ?

Our face is how people identify who we are. It is how our neighbors recognize us when they say good morning .

To ban people from showing their face is to isolate them from any healthy meaningful social interaction. And we are social beings.

How can someone covered in hood really interact with others ? Forcing someone to cover their face is like throwing him. in some prison of isolation.

This also limits their ability to work , something many afghan families depend on.

Afghanistan already has one of the highest rates of illiteracy in the world - now they want to cause problems for all those woman school teachers , to make things worse ?

And they dare do that in the name of religion ? How does it contribute to that , if most Afghans cant even read the Quran ?

It is not only unjust but counter productive, a society that cripples itself.

All fair points but in reality societies like Afghanistan, it is more likely covering your face may end up saving you from all sorts of harassment.

The Quran sets minimum requirements for modesty, the societal dictation shapes the rest.

I can understand that , but if woman are harassed than limitation should be made on those doing the harassment ,not the victims.

If there is a criminal on the loose you put the criminal in prison . You do not lock the entire public in prison , just to protect them from that criminal.

The punishments given out by Taliban for crimes against women is still not acceptable in the eyes of the rest of the world.

How is having a covered face punishment to the entire public?

they better cover up, then

they really should if their next best option is a 7.62 round to the head

Sometimes the 7.62 round is preferable to submission.
By the way do Taliban actually have 7.62 rounds?

Male newsreaders wear masks in protest as Taliban cover female TV anchors

Islamabad: Afghanistan’s Taliban rulers have begun enforcing an order requiring all female TV news anchors in the country to cover their faces while on-air. The move is part of a hard-line shift drawing condemnation from rights activists.

After the order was announced on Thursday, only a handful of news outlets complied. But on Sunday, most female anchors were seen with their faces covered after the Taliban’s Vice and Virtue Ministry began enforcing the decree.

The Information and Culture Ministry previously announced that the policy was “final and non-negotiable”.
“It is just an outside culture imposed on us forcing us to wear a mask and that can create a problem for us while presenting our programs,” said Sonia Niazi, a TV anchor with TOLOnews. In an act of solidarity with female colleagues, the channel’s male personnel covered their faces with masks, including the main evening newsreader.

A local media official confirmed his station had received the order last week but on Sunday it was forced to implement it after being told it was not up for discussion. He spoke on condition he and his station remain anonymous for fear of retribution from Taliban authorities.
