Afghanistan's Gov't of National Unity
This is a historical moment in the political history of Afghanistan, as they, and the entire region will witnesses the transition to a new Afghan government due to two prominent Afghan leaders accepting a power-sharing agreement. President Elect Ashraf Ghani and Designated Chief Executive Abdullah Abdullah, who are strong political rivals, agreed to share the responsibilities of governance and let go disputes for the sake of the future of Afghanistan. This act in itself shows the commitment and dedication of the Afghan people to move forward and take Afghanistan towards progress and prosperity.
As Army Gen. John F. Campbell, Commander of NATO and U.S. Forces in Afghanistan congratulated the new Government of national unity, he said, "Reaching this agreement required difficult choices, partnership and compromise on the part of both candidates and the outcome of their talks prioritizes the recognized needs of the Afghan nation ahead of politics or individual power."
