Afghanistan war 'lost cause,' says Pakistan's ex-intelligence chief

Why should any country replace NATO/US invaders to clean the American shi.it in the first place??

Who will be willing to do that ??? all major powers and west has joined this wrong invasion and they now want to get out one or the way.

Russia isnt going to do that. Who is left then ?? Iran and India? or Islamic countries ? so will they be willing to clean up American mess in Afghanistan at the cost of own people??

Well Jana, i look at it in this way. I feel it is the collective responsibility of the world towards Afghans after all that they have gone through.

I agree with your second post though. Outside influences are one the biggest reasons for the current Afghan situation. Everyone should take thier hand-offand let the Afghans decide their future !

Arguments made by Gul are very poor.

He says that nobody has been charged or convicted with the 9/11 attacks, including Bin Laden. Unfortunately sad truth is Western legal system is set up to protect the accused. Air India took almost 20 years and everyone knows who did it and they even walk the streets as free men yet few were convicted. What a reasonable person would think as enough evidence, is not enough evidence in Western criminal courts.

He also says militaries will always ask for more resources and never admit defeat. That is not true in the case of Western countries whose militaries are subservient to the political masters. Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld would never have admitted defeat. It wasn't the military who pushed it, but these individuals. If Obama was leaning towards withdrawing from Afghanistan, *** lickers and boot kissers would make up evidence to support Obama. Not the other way around.

He also doesn't address the biggest examples. Japan, Germany, South Korea. In all cases the USA stayed and outlasted extremist forces. It took half a century of course, but given the huge US military bases in Afghanistan one embassy with two thousand staff and over a thousand soldiers and Bagram Air Base being massively expanded, it appears the US will take this route with Afghanistan. There will never be less than 30,000 US troops in Afghanistan for the next 100 years, much like South Korea. And probably much more, 50-100k for the next 10-20 years. What would Mr. Gul say to that?

Figther let me be clear to you that even though i dont agree with Iraq invasion i am not a big fan of Saddam Hussain too..the best thing now is to hold an election and give power to Iraqi people..may be US attacked them with fabricated reasons ...but we should move foreward..with the help of Arab countries and US ,Iraq can come back to his past glory..they have the natural resources that help them stand up ..Helping them to stand for their own is now the best way of justice..and for me every country in the world is responsible for it..

And for Taliban would become a threat..fighter even an increased presence of Taliban in our neighborhood is going to be an issue for us...No matter minorities like Christians and Muslims live in our country..for them we are all kaffirs and to be killed and they wont ask for religion before doing it..

Sieko, a country literally destroys every thing in another country on the basis of lies and propaganda, kills hundreds and thousands of civilians and when the objectives (what ever they were) are not met, calls it a day and tells the world to move on. Well how convenient!

If God Forbid, it had happened to your country then what? I say few heads must roll. Bush, Cheney and their military commanders must be brought to justice for destroying an entire nation. Is that too much for the asking?

The problem was because of the IRaq war all sorts of reconstruction effort was stopped.

Warlords were given power instead of elected reps and then Taliban revived thanks to the lack of resources due to the IRaq war.

Personally I think it should be a regional force of SAARC, CAR countries including China Iran and Russia stabilising Afghanistan rather than NATO which are here from halfway around the world. But the problem is that these countries are not united and arevictimg of mutal suspicion and hostility.

Here I disagree with you Ejaz. Afghanistan was never as developed a country as Iraq. There was literally no re-construction in Afghanistan under NATO/ISAF. NATO's primary objective was to CATCH THE CAVEMEN of AL-QAIDA and Talibans, to destroy the poppy fields, to up-bring a democratic society for Afghans people and so many other tall claims. NONE of it was ever achieved in last 9 years of occupation, even for a short period of time. Iraq war was never a problem, as it started much later than Afghan war. NATO/ISAF is an utter failure right from begining.:what:

Believe me if NATO/ISAF fails then nobody from the above mentioned countries, except probably to Iran, would like to wash the dirty linen of NATO/ISAF in Afghanistan.

Pakistan, India and Iran would like to keep thier proxies alive and so help contribute to CIVIL WAR there. Nothing more or less.

Afghans would continue to suffer, untill they decide to live in peace and prosper collectively. They had to abondon the idea of prosperity on ethenic lines, once NATO is out.
