Afghanistan to sign its first strategic partnership agreement with India

Not really, having a "permanent presence" overrunning the present regime is regarded as control; & the Taliban have advanced out of their bases in the south and east and are extending their influence & infiltrating Kabul at will. The problem with Afghanistan is, the coalition troops drive the militants out, but when they vacate their spots, the militants come right back in. Meaning they are not able to hold territory, meaning it is out of the control of the present regime. You have to capture the area, & be able to hold it, & the coalition forces have failed to do that for most of Afghanistan (the holding part).

The TTP has not driven out the existing regime in Karachi.

i will post you a few things about karachi and taliban see what you think. our taliban obviiousely control some parts such as in kunar/nuristan/helmand/qandahar etc, but it is rediculouse to assume they have control in places like herat, as i said before, places like herat is one of the safest, and you know what, not long ago i was in eastern afghanistan for couple of months, i didnt see what you say here.....

India is not going to play any overt role - it won't need to. Why? US will continue its CT campaign in AfPak after 2014. The lesser troops US has on ground, the lesser casualties, lesser political pressure at home and lesser Pak leverage regarding supply lines.

Many analysts have concluded that there will be SF till the end of the next Presidential term. With increasing CIA assertiveness vis-a-vis Pak, all we need is to grab a popcorn bucket and see drones fire hellfire or if lucky OBL type raids.

I think there more likely for the US embassy to be bombed, a truck to be bombed, the ex-President (the president's brother, or the governor of Kandahar) to be killed, or the CIA compound to be bombed in Kabul.

I think India should help Afghanistan in every way possible to face this Taliban+Pakistan axis

So you are saying the Huffington Post, Bloomberg & all the other Western media outlets reporting it are wrong?

The fact of the matter is, whenever the coalition forces leave an Afghan region, the militants swoop back in. They are not able to hold territory they vacate from, plain & simple. Meaning it is out of their control.

I think India and Afganistan should jointly start a new beginning for a properous and peaceful Afganisn. We cab rope in China, US and Russia for rebuilding this great nation along with cooperation from Iran which might be helpful considering the situation in Pakistan.

I also think Afghanistan should consider fencing their borders with Pak (no offence to anyone) just like India did. They should not get into this BS that Afghan and Pakistani are brothers. Right now they should just stick to the point that miscreants are coming from other side of the border whether they are neighbor sponsored or not and when tension between the 2 nations normalize then they can remove fences and let free movement of people across borders.

If that is true, why did you support the Northern Alliance in Afghanistan? They are famous for their fanaticism & violence as well.
The Northern Alliance are nowhere near being so extreme as the Taliban. And there are NO Taliban in the Alliance!

And therefore, it would not be a cakewalk for the Taliban to take over the reins in Afghanistan once the Americans leave. Reasons:

1. The U.S. would be stationing an equivalent of three divisions in Kabul on a permanent basis to ensure that there are no anti U.S. groups like the Taliban (Haqqani/Mullah Omar) at the helm. So Pakistan's aim of installing a puppet Taliban regime will come a cropper.

2. It is not only the Taliban and Pakistan who are in the fray for the spoils in Afghanistan. Jumping into that potent mix would be countries like China, Iran, India, CIS republics, the Northern Alliance and dozens of powerful warlords fighting for a place in the sun!

In other words, the present scenario would seem like a picnic compared to what is in store in 2014.

have you forgotten the very high profile leaders of yours being killed, your many cheif police and army guys killed, attacks on your security/intelligence and also their HQs into the hearts of your cities, attack on that airfield which destroyed your aircrafts etc. these things happen in both countries.

and even higher chances of continued attacks on Pakistani civilians and armed forces, more attacks on Pakistani naval bases and army head quarters, destruction of Pakistani military assets, more unrest in Karachi, spreading to Balochistan, increased bomb attacks etc etc

Most of Balochistan is under Pakistan's control, it's only small parts of Balochistan (South West, close to the Iran border) that is under the BLA/BLF control.

Then why did you have the US/UK over in your country in the first place? Afghanistan is a landlocked country, & Pakistan & Iran have borders with Afghanistan, they (& rest of the countries bordering Afghanistan) should come first in strategic agreements, & everyone else later, for the stability of the region. If Afghanistan does not want the region to be stable, that's another issue.

Coming from you guys.. didn't you have US/saudis as your strategic alies .. which borders did you guys share.. and why so much disgruntlement with indo-af alliance... we didn't complain when china forged relations with you...

And for gods sake please dont talk about stability ... it is very well known how taliban flourishes, gets its logistic/training/indoctrination. Subcontinental stability and your national interests are completely opposite things.

If India had a little bit more sense, it would try talking with someone that controls most of Afghanistan, not the mayor of Kabul (& the title of the 'mayor of Kabul' is becoming doubtful as well, looking at the recent events in the city).

Iran has started talking to them already, even though they've traditionally hated them:

Iran hosts Taliban in bid for greater Afghan role

Secret Iran invite to Taliban signals new power play

What can we do ... your guys killed the real leader of afghans .. the Lion of Panjshir
