President to make first Pakistan visit tomorrow
By Javed Hamim Kakar Nov 13, 2014 - 16:01

KABUL (Pajhwok): President Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai will be leaving for Islamabad on Friday on his first two-day state visit to Pakistan since he took office last month.

Pakistan Foreign Office Spokesperson Tasneem Aslam confirmed Ghani’s visit during her weekly briefing in Islamabad on Thursday.

She said the Afghan leader would hold bilateral meetings with his Pakistani counterpart President Mamnoon Hussain and Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to discuss bilateral relations and regional security situation.

She added issues pertaining to border security would also come up for discussion during the meetings.

Ghani’s visit follows a trip by Pakistan Chief of Army Staff Gen. Raheel Sharif to Kabul, which Afghan officials had said was encouraging.

Former president Hamid Karzai had once said he had visited Pakistan 20 times, but there had been no positive outcome.

Soon after the new government was inaugurated in Kabul, Pakistan sent its national security advisor Sartaj Aziz, who invited President Ahmadzai to visit Pakistan on behalf of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.

After Gen. Raheel’s visit, the Pakistani spymaster Gen. Rizwan Akhtar paid a visit to Kabul.

A day earlier, Wolesi Jirga members asked the government to brief them on recent visits by the Pakistani officials.

The US envoy in Islamabad has said the time is ripe for both Afghanistan and Pakistan to reset their ties following the formation of new civilian governments in the neighbouring nations.

Political analyst Mohammad Hassan Haqyar told Pajhwok Afghan News such visits by leaders of the two counties would be of no benefit until Pakistan took practically steps to address the concerns on the Afghan side.

He said President Ahmadzai had made it clear on Pakistan that relations between the two countries could not improve until Islamabad practically showed its sincerity.

New office bearers of Afghanistan seem to be interested in good relations with Pakistan. Its about time all parties sat together and found way to long term peace in the region.

Looking at pictures of visit it seem relations will be great going forward, its only natural. What do you think @Sher Malang?

Ghani is showing good sense so far. He has the interests of Afghanistan and it's stability at heart. By the looks of it he'l be a far better leader for afghanistan than Karzai.

It's a great news. Both countries should realize that both cannot survive without peace and stability in their controlled areas. Afghan President has signed many MOU's during his visit to China which means that billions of dollars are gonna be invested in Afghanistan from China using Pakistan as a corridor. Pakistani military officials have also offered for the training of Afghan National Army in their academies. What i am feeling is that situation is gonna be changed 180 degree in Afghanistan. Billion's of dollars of investment in China with the peaceful internal and external situation would change drastically the future of Afghanistan. Afghan President is a highly educated qualified man and he can change the fate of his country in upcoming years.

Karzai wasn't even a leader.

There is a distinct lack of some posters who were cheering on rumours that Mr Ghani was ignoring Pakistan and hated the idea of any relations.

Your comments please guys.
